Ratoath Harps Annual Golf Classic
Venue: Hollystown Golf Club
Date: July 20th, 2007
Cost: Euro 280 per team of four
Hole Sponsorship: Euro 100 per hole.
Contact: Mark Flood 087 237 3244
Not everyone realises that our annual membership fees are heavily subsidised.
Every year we need to run several fundraising events to meet the gap between our membership income (membership fees and lottery sales) and our expenditure (pitch development and maintenance, insurance, electricity, loan repayments, coaching costs etc). A quick look through the club accounts shows that, even with this fundraising, the club ran a deficit last year.
One of our main fundraising events is our Annual Golf Classic. This year, the Golf Classic is being run at Hollystown Golf Club on July 20th, 2007. A team of four costs just Euro 280.
Most of the golf classics run by other clubs and voluntary organisations cost far in excess of this. We have tried over the years to keep the entry cost down and to give value for money.
If you don't play golf yourself perhaps you can get some of your friends to take a team or you can sponsor a hole for just Euro100. We are also looking for corporate sponsorship for prizes, advertising in the brochure etc.
We urgently need your support and look forward to seeing you on the day at Hollystown.

Under 13C Squad triumph over NDSL League for the second year!
The Under 13C squad, under management team John Kearns, Billy Neill and Sean McIntyre, clinched back-to-back NDSL League titles yesterday evening with an emphatic 7-1 away win at Rivervalley Rangers.
The team drew a game one-all on the 25th of April and had nine games to go in the league. They had to go unbeaten to win the league in the remaining games and the defeat of Rivervalley saw the ninth game as a win of the title for the second year running.
It was more grey hair for the coaches as, after a very nervous first half, it was one all at half time, Ratoath having equalised on 30 minutes with a stunning header. That goal was Michael Neill’s.
However, it didn't take the lads long to settle down at the start of the second half to produce a veritable avalanche of goals, with two being scored within 5 minutes of the restart.
(A little bird tells us that one of the now-famous John Kearns half-time pep talks may have had something to do with this!)
Michael Neill again repeated his scoring effort after 15 seconds in the second half and completed his hat trick a while later. Other goals from Paddy Flood, Shane Nolan, Andy O’Brien and Rob Staunton completed the result.
This league title was won by virtue of one single attribute and that’s this teams sense of being a team. Everyone counts and everyone matters and going two goals behind, as happened on a few occasions, didn’t frazzle any of them. These lads just like medals, its as simple as that and they had some fun along the way.
Particularly sweet was the fact that the result brought them in ahead of long-time local derby rivals Dunshaughlin by a margin of 2 points. C'mon The Harps!!

Team:
Dillon Kearns. Ciaran O’Connor. Cian McIntyre. Jonathan Fagan. Emmett Woods. Elliot Gould (C). Daniel Conlan. Mohamed Saleh. Andrew O’Brien. Paddy Flood. Michael Neil. Shane Nolan. Yaros Baturov. Robert Staunton. Mark Farrington. Hugh Moloney. Daniel Doran. Chris Kearns.
Scorers on the night were:
Michael Neill - 3
Paddy Flood - 1
Shane Nolan - 1
Robbie Staunton - 1
Andrew O'Brien - 1
The management team (pictured below) would like to thank the players, and their parents, for all the hard work and support during the season.

Ratoath Harps win Leinster Senior League Major 1 Sunday
In a 2-all draw against Bath Rangers this afternoon, the men's First Team (LSL Major 1 Sunday) completed an excellent season by clinching the League title and promotion to LSL Major Sunday next season.
Seasoned members of the club inform us that this is the first First Team title since 1986, and the result was greeted with scenes of great celebration and not a little emotion. Hearty congratulations to all concerned.
See Match report below.
Bath Rangers 2…..Ratoath Harps 2
(Played Sunday 27th May in Ballsbridge)
Ratoath travelled to Herbert Park in Ballsbridge needing a point to secure the L.S.L. Major 1 title. Despite going 2-0 behind The Harps fought back to salvage a draw and win the league by one point. Bath applied early pressure and took the lead after fifteen minutes when a badly defended free was punished with an easy tap in. The Harps then conceded a second with an unfortunate own goal from Gareth Wilson. Central defender Danny Lonergan threw Ratoath a life line before the break with a great solo effort. He won the ball in his own half and fought his way through midfield and defence before despatching to the top right of the net. The Harps played better football in the second half and created several chances before getting their second goal. A shot from Jordan Lancaster was parried by the Bath keeper and Graham Kavanagh pounced to head home. Ratoath pushed forward to get a winning goal but could not break down the Rangers defence and had to settle for a draw to win the league, one point ahead of Glenville. Marcus Cowzer in midfield and Danny Lonergan in defence were outstanding and they were ably abetted by David Geraghty, Ritchie O Brien and Gareth Wilson. Team; Gary Duff, David Geraghty, Danny Lonergan, Gareth Wilson, Joey Burke, Ritchie O Brien, Marcus Cowzer, Ciaran Donnelly, Graham Kavanagh, Robbie Burke, Jordan Lancaster. Subs; Barry Maguire, Derek Kavanagh, Colm Eglington.

Ratoath Harps 3 Home Farm 0
Morton Stadium in Santry was the venue for the final, played on April 28th. The N.D.S.L. made it a great occasion for the young players. The game was played in very sunny conditions on a good pitch. Ratoath opened the scoring on 5 minutes when slick passing between Marc Gibson McKenna, Jake Brennan and Graeme Reynolds got Callum McCormack in to finish superbly. Two further goals from Graeme Reynolds and Jake Brennan in the first half put Ratoath in control of the game. Midfielders Aidan Gill and Michael Margiotta created good scoring chances for Ratoath in the second half. However, a very good Home Farm side played with great spirit and no little skill right to the end. The Ratoath defence had to be alert at all times and Marc McCormack, Barry Clarke, Patrick Costelloe and Oran Carr were superb in stopping the many Home Farm attacks. After the final whistle, Harry Gribben went up the steps to collect the trophy to great cheers from the big Ratoath support.

Graeme Reynolds, Oran Carr, Marc Gibson McKenna, Aidan Gill, Harry Gribben, Patrick Costelloe, Michael Margiotta, Jake Brennan, Marc McCormack, Barry Clarke, Callum McCormack.

POLIKOFF CUP FINAL
RATOATH HARPS 0…..ST.PATS C.Y. 3
There was disappointment for Ratoath Harps last Saturday evening in Frank Cooke Park when a strong and talented St. Pats side got a deserved victory. Ratoath started well on the excellent pitch and the Pats keeper had to make some early saves as Marcus Cowzer and Jordan Lancaster threatened. As the game progressed St. Pats improved and scored a great goal after twenty five minutes when a twenty metre bullet gave Harps keeper Gary Duff no chance. Ratoath almost conceded a second just before the break but it remained 0-1 at half time. In the first half the teams looked evenly balanced but when Pats scored their second goal, despite the best efforts of The Harps keeper,
they raised their game and showed why they won the Major league of the L.S.L. with ease. The Harps conceded a third goal before the final whistle and can have no complaints with the final outcome. Ratoath captain Gareth Wilson put in an excellent ninety minutes as did Danny Lonergan in midfield and centre half Derek O Neill had a towering game in defence. Ratoath have to raise themselves up now as they have unfinished business in the league. They have three away league games to win to ensure they remain at the top of the table. Next Tuesday night they play Peamount and on Thursday they play Manortown, both games at 7oC. The following Sunday they play Bath Rangers at 2-30 and hopefully after this tough schedule they will have something to celebrate.
Team; Gary Duff, Derek Kavanagh, Derek O Neill, Gareth Wilson, Joey Burke, Ritchie O Brien, Danny Lonergan, David Geraghty, Graham Kavanagh, Marcus Cowzer, Jordan Lancaster. Subs; Robbie Burke, Robbie Kelly, Matt Conway.

Ratoath Harps 3… St. Francis 1
Jordan Lancaster scored twice and Barry Maguire got one goal as Ratoath Harps came from behind to retain top spot in the Major 1 division of the Leinster Senior League. The game started well with both teams playing an attacking game but no goals were scored in the first half. St. Francis scored early in the second half but Ratoath responded in the proper manner and upped their game to finish strongly and collect three valuable points and ensure promotion. There are more Saints on the horizon as St. Pats CY are the opposition in the Polikoff Cup Final next Saturday evening at Tolka Rovers pitch, Frank Cooke Park, in Glasnevin. Kick off is at 6-45 and all support will be appreciated.

Cherryfield 1……..Ratoath Harps 1
Ratoath Harps collected a point in this away fixture against a strong Cherryfield team. Both teams had chances in the first half with Mark Woods going closest for The Harps but half time arrived without a goal. Cherryfield took the lead fifteen minutes into the second half but Mark Woods levelled for Ratoath five minutes later after a cross from Alan Farrelly. Andy Murphy was outstanding for Ratoath in an excellent team display which keeps them top of the table.
Rivervalley 1 Ratoath 10C1 0 (Report by Conor Ward)
Ratoath travelled to Rivervalley in search of 3 points to finish in joint 2nd place with Rivervalley whom if they win go joint 1st with Malahide. Ratoath started the game well and inside 2 minutes Aaron Flanagan had a shot saved from close range. Rivervalley pushed Ratoath hard but were kept at bay by a super back 3 of Sean Keogh, Alana Graves and Cathal Carolan. Ratoath pushed forward with a super pass from Conor Ward to Sean Kavanagh to slip the ball through to Aidan Griffin who shot just wide to bring the 1st half to a close. From the kick off Ratoath midfielder Jamie Walsh went on a super solo run and had a shot pushed just over the bar for a corner. Cathal Carolan swung a high ball in from the corner which Conor Ward headed just wide. The game was played in the middle of the park for most of the 2nd half but it was Rivervalley who broke the deadlock with 3 minutes left on the clock. Ratoath pushed forward and had shots saved from Dan O Sullivan and Sean Kavanagh. The under 10C1 team wish both Malahide and Rivervalley well in the play off match for top spot. Team: Conor Ward, Sean Kavanagh, Sean Keogh, Sarah Doran, Dylan Brady, Jamie Walsh, Aidan Griffin, David Stanton, Cathal Carolan, Aaron Flanagan, Alana Graves, Dan O’Sullivan, Gavin Boyle.
Managers: Damien Ward, Vincent Kavanagh.
RATOATH HARPS U-14C 3…..DARNDALE 2
Ratoath Harps completed their season with a great 3-2 home win over league leaders Darndale last Sunday. Craig Reynolds opened the scoring for the Harps but Darndale levelled before the break. Strong pressure from the visitors gave them a deserved 2-1 lead but Ian Gillette made it 2-2 with a great shot from the centre circle. Ian then set upShakiru Adeaga who slipped the ball under the keeper to give The Harps a deserved win and third place in the league. Keeper Andrew Gorman made some vital saves during the game and the rest of the team showed how much they have improved this season with another excellent performance.

Polikoff Cup Semi Final (Played in Palmerstown)
Glenville 0….Ratoath Harps 0, after extra time
Ratoath won 4-3 on penalties
Ratoath Harps started well but could not break down a resolute Glenville defence. An attacking break by Glenville midway through the first half brought out the best in Harps keeper Gary Duff as he produced a full length save at the expense of a corner. Both teams had spells of dominance but neither could produce a goal even with extra time, as defences dominated, and a tense penalty shootout resulted. Each team kicked a penalty wide but Gary Duff was the hero for Ratoath with a great save when he dived to his left to deflect a well taken penalty over the bar. Colm Currie, Joey Burke, Jordan Lancaster and Damien O Neill were on target for Ratoath and they meet St. Pats or St. Josephs in the final. Damien O Neill was outstanding at the centre of The Harps defence and all the other players put in a workmanlike performance against a good Glenville team.
Team; Gary Duff, Derek Kavanagh, Damien O Neill, Gareth Wilson, Joey Burke, Ritchie O Brien, Danny Lonergan, David Geraghty, Graham Kavanagh, Jordan Lancaster, Marcus Cowzer. Subs; Robbie Kelly, Barry Maguire, Colm Currie.

Parkvale 3..Ratoath Harps 1
(Played in V.E.C. Sportsgrounds, Terenure Sunday 29th April K.O. 11oC)
Ratoath Harps failed to perform against relegation battlers Parkvale and suffered a surprise defeat which dented their promotion hopes. A weak clearance gave Parkvale a clear goal chance and a 1-0 lead inside five minutes. The Harps fought back, but with many of the players giving below par performances, failed to test the home keeper. Another defensive lapse gave Parkvale their second goal after thirty five minutes and five minutes later Ratoath were reduced to ten men when Gareth Wilson saw red.
The introduction of Ritchie O Brien and Jordan Lancaster for Barry Maguire and Graham Kavanagh in the second half improved things for Ratoath but Parkvale broke forward after twenty minutes to make it 3-0. Ten minutes later good play by Robbie Burke set up Jordan Lancaster who turned his marker and finished well with a right foot shot. The Parkvale keeper then made a good save from Marcus Cowzer and Jordan Lancaster had a legitimate goal disallowed for offside as the referee failed to notice a defender on the goal line. The Harps continued to press forward but failed to improve the scoreline to leave Parkvale with a deserved 3-1 win. Robbie Burke, Ritchie O Brien and Jordan Lancaster were best for Ratoath.
Team; Gary Duff, Derek Kavanagh, Danny Lonergan, Gareth Wilson, Joey Burke, Barry Maguire, Ciaran Donnelly, David Geraghty, Graham Kavanagh, Robbie Burke, Marcus Cowzer.
Subs; Jordan Lancaster, Ritchie O Brien and Robbie Kelly (for Joey Burke)

LUCAN 0..RATOATH HARPS 3
Played Thurs 19th April in Lucan
Ratoath Harps took an early lead when midfielder Danny Lonergan slotted home from a tight angle with a left foot shot. With The Harps playing some great football a second goal arrived ten minutes later from David Geraghty. A cleared corner was met by Geraghty at the edge of the box and his well struck daisy cutter gave the Lucan keeper no chance. Robbie Kelly was unlucky not to increase Ratoath's lead before the break when his powerful shot was well saved by the Lucan keeper. The home team got on top in the early stages of the second half with Harps keeper Gary Duff making two good saves but a Damien O Neill goal midway through the half gave the incentive back to The Harps and they ran out deserving winners. Marcus Cowzer, Joey Burke and Gareth Wilson were to the fore in a powerful team display.

Harps boys battle to beat Ballyfermot
Ratoath Harps 10A1 DDSL side continued their fine run of form with a hard fought win in the quarter finals of the Paul Fitzgerald Cup last weekend.
Having done it the hard way in the previous round, where they beat Rangers CYM in a penalty shootout, the Harps knew another tough game was in store against a robust Ballyfermot outfit.
From the first whistle, the Harps struggled, unusually, to gain any good midfield possession and couldn’t get their normal passing game going. Ballyfermot were winning most of the midfield battles and bombarded the Ratoath goal area with long balls aimed at their two forwards. The Harps defence of Shane Clayton, Aaron O’Toole, Evan Kelly and Dylan Williams were in for a busy day with plenty of heading practice provided, but they remained composed and dealt well with the aerial threat. After fifteen minutes, however, Ballyfermot made their pressure count and Harps keeper Sam O’Connor was helpless to stop a curling shot from the edge of the box that dipped into the top corner of the net.
Despite going the goal down, the Harps continued to battle and gradually came more and more into the game with forwards, David Caprani and Luke Darcy testing the keeper on more than one occasion. 1-0 down at half time, this game was far from over.
In the second half, as legs tired and the game opened up it was Ratoath’s midfield that began to find the space to play their passing game and it was Ballyfermot now very much on the defensive. Wingers, Glenn O’Reilly and Cillian Glynn revelled in the extra space available and tormented the Ballyfermot defence down both flanks. The two midfield dynamos, Niall Donnelly and Timmy Lennon were now running the game and with ten minutes of the second half gone the Harps got a deserved equaliser. Luke Darcy got on the end of a great cross before controlling the ball and slotting it calmly into the net, 1-1 and all to play for. Five minutes later and it was 2-1 to the Harps after Glenn O’Reilly picked the ball up on the right wing, passed it inside to Niall Donnelly and continued his run before collecting a slide rule return pass played inside the Ballyfermot defence. Glenn took a touch before drawing the keeper and blasting the ball into the back of the net. The Ratoath supporters went wild with both excitement and relief!
A couple of minutes later The Harps were awarded a penalty and a perfect chance to wrap the game up but missed the target from the spot. This seemed to give Ballyfermot new hope and they pushed forward in one last desperate effort to get an equaliser. With the seconds ticking away, Ballyfermot were awarded a penalty after a Harps defender was harshly judged to have fouled in the box. It looked like extra time for the second successive Sunday and maybe another dreaded peno shootout but keeper Sam O’Connor got down brilliantly to his right to palm the penalty away and Ratoath were deservedly through to the semis. Well done to all.

Cillian Glynn gets up for the cup!.

L.S.L. MAJOR 1 SUNDAY
RATOATH HARPS 2..TULLAMORE 0
Played Thurs. 5th April in Ratoath. K.O. 8oC.
Despite playing with ten men for most of the second half Ratoath Harps avenged their only league defeat of the season with this win. Ratoath started well and were rewarded with a goal within fifteen minutes. Good control and vision from striker Robbie Burke started a move which was clinically finished by midfielder Graham Kavanagh.
As the game progressed Tullamore were getting the upper hand in midfield and putting severe pressure on The Harps defence. Danny Lonergan, Gareth Wilson and keeper Gary Duff were to the fore in Ratoath's efforts to keep the visitors at bay as they succeeded in reaching the break without conceding. An impressive Tullamore team continued to push forward in the second half and Gary Duff was called on to make an outstanding full length save.
Ratoath were reduced to ten men when Keith Byrne was sent off for a second yellow and an uphill struggle seemed on the cards to stop Tullamore from scoring. Some astute reshuffling by the management team, with the introduction of Ritchie O Brien for midfielder David Geraghty and moving Danny Lonergan from defence to midfield, improved things considerably for The Harps. For the first time Ratoath began to win the midfield battle and with Robbie Burke outstanding as the lone striker they scored a second goal mid way through the half. Good play on the left wing and a great cross by Ritchie O Brien was headed on at the near post by Robbie Burke and midfielder Ciaran Donnelly arrived on the back post to head home.
Tullamore continued to play some good football but with all the Ratoath players "up for it" they were denied a score and The Harps recorded a vital 2-0 win to retain second position in the table. Danny Lonergan, Robbie Burke and Gareth Wilson were outstanding and most players involved, especially in the second half, can be very happy with their performance.
Team; Gary Duff, Derek Kavanagh, Damien O Neill, Gareth Wilson, Danny Lonergan, Barry Maguire, Ciaran Donnelly, David Geraghty, Graham Kavanagh, Robbie Burke. Keith Byrne, Subs; Ritchie O Brien for David Geraghty. Robbie Kelly for Barry Maguire.
Ratoath Harps L.S.L. Major 1 team have some crucial games coming up in the coming weeks. They travel to league leaders Glenville on Thursday 12th. April Sunday the 15th sees an away game against Shamrock Rovers in a Polikoff Cup quarter final, followed by a visit to Lucan on Thursday 19th and another away game against Parkvale on Sunday the 22nd.

RATOATH HARPS 3...BALLYOUSTER 2
Played Wed. 4th April in Ratoath, K.O. 8oC.
Ratoath Harps took the lead in the first half when Alan Farrelly was taken down in the area and Dylan Kiely converted the resultant penalty. Ballyouster levelled early in the second half when a free kick caused confusion in defence and presented an easy chance for the visitors. Ratoath attacked incessantly and went close on several occasions but bad luck and a good keeper kept them out.
Harps keeper Martin McKeon made a great save from a free kick before Ballyouster took a 2-1 lead mid way through the second half. It looked like it was not going to be Ratoath's night but Captain Liam O Shea gave them a lifeline when he scored direct from a corner to make it 2-2. Continued pressure gave them a deserved 3-2 victory when the skilful Matt Conway deceived the defenders with a delightful turn and drove a low shot home from the edge of the box.
Team; Martin McKeon, Andy Griffith, Colm Eglington, John Moore, Dylan Kiely, Alan Farrelly, Liam O Shea, Jonathan Drake, Ciaran Rothwell, Matt Conway, Damien O Connell. Subs; Mark Woods, Derek Boyle, Andy Murphy.

Ratoath Harps 3 Maynooth Town 2
Ratoath Harps recorded a well deserved victory over Maynooth Town at Steeplechase this morning. It was the visitors though who took the lead when the Harps defence failed to clear from a corner after 10 minutes and the ball was poked to the Harps net. Ratoath responded and a good clearance by Andrew Brownmore found Tim Ryan who in turn found Mark Hoare free on the right wing. A quick cross from Hoare into the penalty area left Josh Finnegan with still a bit to do but the forward broke from his marker and expertly slipped the ball past a hapless advancing Maynooth keeper. With a strong breeze in their favour Maynooth again went on the attack and before the interval added a second goal to lead 2-1 at the interval.
However, this Harps team showed once again that they can come from behind and equalised when a sweeping move down the left wing saw Jack Tyrrell find Aaron Kelly just outside the box. Kelly turned and his precision pass found Jason Tyndall who side stepped his marker before firing an excellent shot to the bottom left hand corner.
With just five minutes remaining Harps broke from defence and Mark Hoare collected the ball just inside the Maynooth half. Galloping forward he shrugged off the challenges of the Maynooth defenders and directed his shot past the keeper to score the winning goal and collect all three points for Ratoath. This was a great team performance with all fourteen squad members contributing to a memorable match in which Mark Meyler was outstanding for the home side who were well deserving of their victory.
Squad: Jack Tyrrell, Andrew Brownmore, Peter Byrne, Tim Ryan, Mark Meyler, Conor McDonald, Jason Tyndall, Ciaraín Tierney, Niall Turley, Mark Hoare, Josh Finnegan, Aaron Kelly, Ian Marron and Dáire Gannon.

Ratoath Harps 10C1 vs. Corduff
Brenfer league Report by Conor Ward & Jamie Walsh
Ratoath started well with good defence from Sean Keogh, Alana Graves and
Gavin Boyle. Conor Ward came off after a strong tackle from one of
Corduff’s players. Ratoath attacked well and had a few lucky breaks from
Aaron Flannigan and Sarah Doran but unfortunately didn’t score. Ratoath and
Corduff played well the first half and unfortunately no one scored, and
then the second half started and after a few minutes. Ratoath attacked well
and Jamie Walsh took a volley and just missed the goal. Corduff then
counter-attacked and scored a goal. Ratoath pushed forward in search of an
equaliser and were kept at bay by a in form keeper. Corduff caught Ratoath
on the counter and David Stanton saved a cracker of a shot. After 25
minutes in the second half Ratoath got a corner. A brilliant cross from
Cathal Carolan was met by Jamie Walsh and then Sarah Doran scored a header
into the goal which made it 1-1. The match ended and went to 10 minutes
extra time. Ratoath and Corduff didn’t score in extra time. Ratoath went
on to win the game on penalties 4-2.
RATOATH HARPS 3……FIRHOUSE CELTIC 0
L.S.L. MAJOR 1. Played Sunday 1st April at Firhouse Community Centre.
K.O. 11oC.
Ratoath Harps did not need to be at their best to overcome a poor Firhouse
team but still had to call on keeper Gary Duff to make some vital saves.
Two goals in the first half from centre forward Robbie Burke gave The Harps
a 2-0 half time lead. His first goal came midway through the half when a
free from Jordan Lancaster was parried by the Firhouse keeper and Robbie
pounced to open the scoring. His second, just before half time, was a
complete contrast to his first effort when he collected a pass from
midfielder Danny Lonergan and despite the attentions of three defenders he
showed his strength and skill to score with a great solo effort. Ratoath
scored a third goal early in the second half when defender Graham Kavanagh
collected the ball on the half way line and beat several players before
sending a fine right foot shot to the bottom corner of the net. With
Ratoath going through the motions for most of the second half Firhouse
could not take advantage and the full time whistle was welcomed by all
concerned. Danny Lonergan continued to impress in his central midfield role
and Robbie Burke, Gary Duff and Graham Kavanagh were also prominent as The

RATOATH HARPS 6……RAILWAY UNION L.S.L. Major 1 (Played in Sandymount Sun 25th March K.O. 2-30)
Ratoath Harps climbed to second place in the league with this well deserved
victory. Marcus Cowzer gave The Harps an early lead with a spectacular shot
from thirty metres which gave the Railway keeper no chance. The home team
levelled on the thirty minute mark with a well taken free from 20 metres.
Ratoath regained the lead with an astonishing goal five minutes later when
midfielder David Geraghty spotted the keeper off his line and lobbed him
from several metres inside his own half.
With The Harps defence on top and Danny Lonergan and Marcus Cowzer increasing their midfield dominance Ratoath scored a third just before the break. A long throw from Derek
Kavanagh was flicked on by Danny Lonergan and central defender Damian O
Neill arrived at the back post to hit an unstoppable shot to the net.
Keith Byrne then got the goal he had been threatening to score when he collected
a long delivery from Graham Kavanagh and finished sweetly to make it 4-1
ten minutes into the second half. Ritchie O Brien made it 5-1 mid way
through the half when he finished a good move and David Geraghty got his
second and Ratoath’s sixth with a low drive from the edge of the box.
Danny Lonergan and central defender Gareth Wilson were impressive in an
excellent team performance, which increased Ratoath’s chances of promotion.
Team; Gary Duff, Derek Kavanagh, Damian O Neill, Gareth Wilson, Graham
Kavanagh, Ritchie O Brien, Danny Lonergan, Marcus Cowzer, David Geraghty,

RATOATH HARPS 2……FARM UNITED 4
L.S.L. Div.2 Saturday (Played under lights in Ratoath Fri. 23rd March K.O.
7-45)
League leaders Ratoath Harps were brought down to earth last Friday night
when they suffered a rare defeat in a home fixture against Farm United. The
Harps started well and an early chance for Matt Conway went wide. Farm took
the lead against the run of play after thirty minutes when a defensive
blunder presented them with an easy goal. Ratoath responded within five
minutes when an expertly delivered free kick from Liam O Shea was headed
home by Alan Farrelly to leave the score at half time at one each.
Farm took a 2-1 lead ten minutes into the second half and added another on the
twenty minute mark. Matt Conway scored a second for Ratoath with a great
strike from the right hand side of the box but Farm finished the scoring in
the last minutes of the game for a deserved 4-2 win.

RATOATH HARPS 10B & 10C1 SUNDERLAND A.F.C. TRIP 16th to 18th MARCH 2007
Ratoath Harps teams 10C1 and 10B travelled to Sunderland AFC to watch their home match against Hull City on 17th March. The trip started on 16th march at 5.30am when all 51 travelling met at Dublin airport.
We arrived at our hotel at lunchtime and then made our way to Sunderland AFC for a stadium tour. After the tour it was back to the hotel to let the kids go for a swim and for the rest of us to go for light refreshments in the bar. We all sat together for dinner at 8.30 and then relaxed for the rest of the evening.
On Saturday morning it was up for breakfast at 10am and then a quick trip to the arcade before we set off to the match. We arrived by coach to the match at 2pm and took up our seats in the East Stand with all 51 wearing tall green hats. After the match it was off to the players area for photos and autographs before heading back to the hotel. After dinner we watched the mighty Irish cricket team which gave us all good reason to enjoy a few more light refreshments.
Sunday morning came very fast and it was a mighty struggle to get all the parents up for breakfast as we had to be on the bus for 9.30am to travel to Houghton Boys FC for 2 games. The weather was very cold and windy but the 10B & 10C1 teams gave a very good display to round off a great weekend of football. We headed back to the hotel to check out and returned to Dublin at 9.30pm. There was never so many people grateful of the early morning text confirming that our games were off due to the bad weather on Monday morning.
It was a pleasure to travel on a trip in which we all made new friends and the teams were so well behaved that the question has already been asked as to when deposits have to be in for the next trip. We would like to thank Ratoath Harps, Fairyhouse Steel, Guild Engineering Ltd, Mi-Flues and Power Video for their support and a special thanks to Sunderland AFC and all their staff for the very warm welcome we received.
Damien Ward, Vincent Kavanagh, Ian Caprani and Jimmy Smyth.

Ratoath Harps 5....St. Francis 4
L.S.L. Major 1 (Sunday)
Played Friday 9th March in Hyland Park Baldonnell K.O. 7-30
There were goals galore in Baldonnell as third placed Ratoath Harps beat league leaders St. Francis last Friday night. Ratoath took a 2-0 lead within fifteen minutes with goals from Keith Byrne and Ciaran Donnelly. St.Francis responded and created some good chances before making it 2-1 in the later stages of the first half with a well constructed goal. The Harps would have settled for this scoreline at half time but Graham Kavanagh popped up in the dying minutes to make it 3-1at the break. A deep cross from the left evaded the Francis defence and Graham finished from a tight angle at the far post. St. Francis took control in the second half and fought back to 3-3 partly helped by a generous Harps defence. The introduction of substitutes Marcus Cowzer, Richie O’Brien and Jordan Lancaster gave the impetus back to Ratoath and Gareth Wilson scored a great goal after an astute pass from Jordan Lancaster to make it 4-3. St. Francis were not finished and brought it level once again with time running out andit looked like a 4-4 draw would be the final score until some Barry Maguire trickery on the right wing got him to the end line and his well delivered cross was headed home by Jordan Lancaster. This victory leaves Ratoath in third place, six points behind St. Francis with six games in hand, and one point behind second placed Glenville with the same amount of games played.
Team; Gary Duff, Robbie Kelly, Damien O Neill, Derek Kavanagh, Joey Burke, Barry Maguire, Gareth Wilson, Ciaran Donnelly, Graham Kavanagh, Keith Byrne, Robbie Burke. Subs; Marcus Cowzer, Richie O Brien, Jordan Lancaster, Austin Byrne, Colm Currie.
Ratoath Harps 5......Mid Sutton
L.S.L. Premier 2 (Saturday)
Played Friday 9th March under lights in Ratoath. K.O. 7-45
Ratoath Harps consolidated their position at the top of the table with a comprehensive 5-0 win over third placed Mid Sutton last Friday night. They went into the half time break winning 1-0 thanks to a goal from striker Damien Whelan but took total control in the second half and added four more goals to run out easy winners. Damien Whelan got his second goal from the penalty spot and Matt Conway, Jonathan Drake and Dylan Kiely (Penalty) completed the scoring to go nine points ahead of second placed Griffith Rovers. Liam O Shea played a captains role in midfield and the Harps defence were in top form with keeper Martin McKeon excelling under the highball and in his distribution. Matt Conway continued his record of scoring in each match he has played in and was a constant threat to an overworked Mid Sutton defence.

Under 18s Bounce Back with Emphatic Win
Ratoath Harps 5: Portmarnock 1
The under 18's put aside the disappointment of last weeks SFAI Cup defeat with an emphatic 5 - 1 win, in a league match away to Portmarnock this morning.
Having conceded an early goal to the home team The Lads settled in to their football and put on one of the best displays so far this season. With 25 mins gone and having already seen a couple of good efforts brilliantly saved by the Portmarnock keeper, Brian Snowe played a great defence splitting ball through to Kevin Timoney and he expertly put it over a stranded keeper to score a well deserved equaliser.
Minutes later "Timo" was on target again as the lads really upped the tempo. Just before half time another great ball from Brian Snowe put Jason Harte through and it was 3 - 1 to Ratoath.
The second half was much the same with The Harps well on top and playing some great football. Several chances were missed before Jason Harte bagged his second after some great work down the right hand side by Matthew O Byrne White in the 80th minute. With only a couple of minutes to go and the game well won Jason Harte was put through again one on one against the keeper, and with "Jay" in top form there was only one conclusion, a well deserved hat trick for "Jay" who had put in a great performance for the whole game. The result keeps the lads in touch at the top of the U18 premier division 3 points behind the leaders with a game in hand.

RATOATH HARPS 2…….POSTAL UTD. 1
Polikoff Cup. Played Sunday 18th Feb. Postal Sports Grounds Kiltipper Rd. Tallaght
K.O. 11am
Ratoath started well and created chances with good crosses from Barry Maguire and Graham Kavanagh. New signing Robbie Burke impressed up front as did the hard working Jordan Lancaster but The Harps had to reshuffle their team when influential captain Gareth Wilson got injured after twenty minutes and could not carry on. Substitute Keith Byrne made an immediate impact with an outstanding twenty metre shot to the bottom corner of the net to give Ratoath a deserved 1-0 lead. Fifteen minutes later Jordan Lancaster topped this with an even better goal from the same distance to the top corner. A long ball caught out the Harps defence in the last minute of the half and keeper Gary Duff was lobbed to leave the score 2-1 at the break.
Postal took control early in the second half and Gary Duff was called on to make two great saves inside fifteen minutes. Ratoath responded well with Marcus Cowzer working hard in midfield and getting in some telling tackles. Robbie Burke saw his powerful header come back of the crossbar on the twenty minute mark after a great cross from full back Colm Currie and central defender Derek Kavanagh put in a great saving tackle soon after to prevent what looked like a certain goal. With ten minutes remaining a great run and pass from Jordan Lancaster put Keith Byrne through but his rushed shot flew past the post and then a twenty five metre thunderbolt from Graham Kavanagh hit the bar with the keeper well beaten. The Harps were reduced to ten men for the final five minutes when Barry Maguire collected a second yellow, but the introduction of Joey Burke for Jordan Lancaster strengthened midfield and Ratoath held out for a hard earned 2-1 victory.
TEAM; Gary Duff, David Geraghty, Damien O Neill, Derek Kavanagh, Colm Currie, Barry Maguire, Gareth Wilson, Marcus Cowzer, Graham Kavanagh, Robbie Burke, Jordan Lancaster. Subs; Keith Byrne, Joey Burke, Austin Byrne, Danny Lonergan, Robbie Kelly

RATOATH HARPS 3……… MOUNT TALLANT POLISH EAGLES 5
L.S.L. Div. 2 (Saturday) Played 17th Feb. in Stanaway Park Crumlin K.O. 2pm
League leaders Ratoath Harps were brought down to earth by Mount Tallant last Saturday, despite taking an early 2-0 lead. Ciaran Rothwell scored with a tidy finish after ten minutes and Matt Conway made it 2-0 five minutes later after a great passing movement. Ratoath conceded a penalty on the twenty minute mark which was scored despite the best efforts of keeper Martin McKeon who got his fingers to the well taken penalty. Two more goals were scored by The Eagles before half time as the players from Poland capitalised on a strangely lethargic defence. The Harps upped their game in the second half but the Mount Tallant keeper was in inspired form as he made three brilliant saves in quick succession from Matt Conway, Damien O Connell and Ciaran Rothwell. Midway through the half Mount Tallant scored their fourth goal as they continued to examine Ratoath down the flanks and a fifth was added ten minutes later with some more good play down the wings. Jonathan Drake scored a third goal for Ratoath two minutes later but the home team held out for a deserved win. Liam O Shea worked tirelessly in midfield despite shipping a lot of punishment from the tough tackling Poles with Jonathan Drake, Ciaran Rothwell and Matt Conway showing some good touches.

Malahide 2 Ratoath Harps 0
Ratoath were beaten 2 0 to the league leaders on a sunny afternoon at Malahide Castle. Malahide started the game well and were rewarded with a goal inside 10 minutes. Ratoath pushed forward in search of an equaliser and Conor Ward passed a ball through to Daniel O Sullivan to have his shot saved. Aaron Flanagan and Sarah Doran combined up front but were kept at bay by a sturdy Malahide defence. Malahide scored a 2nd just before half time and Ratoath pushed hard for a goal to finish the half 2 nil down. Ratoath changed the formation for the start of the 2nd half with Sarah Doran moving to defence with Sean Keogh and Alana Graves and a through ball from Sean Kavanagh to Aaron Flanagan was saved by the Malahide keeper. Ratoath kept pushing forward and a superb shot from Jamie Walsh hit the 2 posts and was cleared for a corner by the keeper. Daniel O Sullivan swung in a high ball from the corner for Aidan Griffin to shoot just wide. Ratoath had a couple of chances but were kept at bay by the Malahide keeper. Malahide caught Ratoath on the break and David Staunton pulled off a great save to keep the final score 2-0.

YOUTH CUP DEFEAT FOR THE HARPS
RATOATH HARPS 1……… EAST MEATH UTD. 2
F.A.I. Youths Cup played under lights in Ratoath Sat. 10th Feb. K.O. 7pm
Defensive lapses and missed chances cost Ratoath Harps U-18 team a place in the fourth round of the Youth Cup last Saturday night. Visitors East Meath Utd. took the lead inside ten minutes but two clear cut chances for The Harps, created by the outstanding Brian Snowe, failed to test the keeper. Despite having most of the play Ratoath failed to break down a dogged United defence and half time arrived without any more goals. The Harps improved considerably in the second half and drove forward at every opportunity, but East Meath were always dangerous on the counter attack and doubled their lead after fifteen minutes. A cross from the right wing created a mix up in Ratoath’s defence and presented the incoming forward with an open goal. A Ratoath goal, scored by Ciaran Ellis, with fifteen minutes remaining brought the score to 2-1 but despite dominating the second half they failed to capitalise on numerous chances. The large crowd enjoyed a competitive game with both teams playing some skilful football. Brian Snowe, Conor Dempsey, Kevin Walls and Andrew Salama were best for Ratoath in what was only their third defeat in four different competitions this season. Squad; Owen McEvoy, Ian Davis, Darragh McGill, Conor Dempsey, Peter Higgins, Brian Snowe, Kevin Walls, Andrew Salama, Hugh Cregan, Jason Harte, Jordan Finlay, Ciaran Ellis, Dave Morgan, Kevin Timoney, Lar Halpin, Matt White, Daniel Kissane.
The weather once again caused many fixtures to be called of, but the D.D.S.L. under 9B1 team’s game, away to Bohemians, went ahead and they excelled with a great 4-1 victory.

Ratoath Harps 2……D.C.U. 1
L.S.L.Major 1(Sunday) played Thursday 1st February under lights in Ratoath.
The original kick off time of 7-45 was delayed for half an hour as traffic conditions held up the referee. The Harps were not affected by the delay and put in a good first half which unfortunately only produced one goal. Goalkeeper Gary Duff was a virtual spectator as attack after attack rained down on the students defence but lack of sharpness in front of goal combined with some good saves from the D.C.U. keeper kept the score to the minimum. Ratoath’s goal came midway through the half as a good cross from Ciaran Donnelly was volleyed home by David Geraghty for a half time score of 1-0. D.C.U. came into the game more in the second half as The Harps passing game disappeared and keeper Gary Duff had to be sharp on several occasions. The visitors drew level after thirty minutes when a badly defended corner was slammed home from close range. The setback brought out the best in Ratoath and they responded in the right fashion to once again put pressure on their opponents who conceded a number of corners in close succession. With Jordan Lancaster and Gareth Wilson delivering these corners with pace and accuracy D.C.U. eventually succumbed. Gareth Wilson whipped in a corner from the left which defender Danny Lonergan controlled expertly and fired an unstoppable shot to the net with five minutes remaining. The hard earned 2-1 victory brings Ratoath up to third place in the league as their quest for promotion continues. Danny Lonergan, David Geraghty and captain Gareth Wilson were to the fore in a game where points could very easily have been dropped.

Ratoath 3 Malahide 0
Having played and beaten Malahide Utd 4 - 1 in a league match the Sunday before, the 18's were drawn against them in the first round of the NDSL Youths Cup on Sunday 4th Feb.
Both teams started well with The Harps getting the better of the early exchanges. Having been awarded a free kick just outside the box and with Malahide players still appealing the decision, some quick thinking from Brian Colgan, who took a quick free kick, gave Kevin Timoney a chance that even Kevin Walls wouldn't miss and the lads were one nil up.
Malahide responded well but despite good pressure from them the Harps were comfortable at half time, 1 goal up. The second half started much as the first had ended with Malahide throwing everything at The Harps. Expertly marshalled by team captain Peter Higgins, the Harps back four of Peter, Daragh McGill, Conor Dempsey and Ian Davis held firm and in truth Malahide never looked like breaking them down.
In addition to a well organised and well marshalled back four the midfield pairing of Kevin Walls and Andrew Salama were once again outstanding and their tough tackling in all areas of the pitch and desire to win eventually saw the game start to swing in the Harps favour. With twenty minutes to go and Ratoath still one up the ball broke to Jason Harte on the left, who from some distance out put the ball over the keeper and in to the corner of the net. The second goal had the desired effect and the lads took control of the rest of the game. Following several different attacks by the Harps and with only a couple of minutes to go, another great cross from the left saw Ian Davis "ghost" in unmarked at the back post to expertly volley home the third from close range.
The game finished 3 nil to Ratoath and carries on a great series of results which have only seen the 18's lose 2 games so far this season in four different competitions.

Malahide Utd. 3.............Ratoath Harps 3
N.D.S.L. Under 11B.......Played Sun. 4th Feb. at Broomfield, Malahide .
Ratoath Harps almost stole all three points in this keenly contested encounter at a very foggy Malahide this morning. Sharing possession equally throughout the first half, a well organised home defence managed to keep Harps scoreless and despite the best efforts of Tim Ryan, Daire Gannon, Niall Turley, and Cian McTiernan in the Harps defence it was Malahide who broke the deadlock and scored to lead 1 - O at the interval.
Ratoath equalised early in the second half with a great opportunistic goal from Peter Byrne who lobbed the goalkeeper from outside the penalty area when he spotted him off his line. Harps increased the pressure but Malahide were always dangerous on the break and soon scored to lead 2 - 1. Undaunted Harps rallied and following a great run Mark Hoare's shot was only parried by the keeper and an ever alert Mark Meyler was on hand to find the net and level the score at 2 - 2.
With Malahide now on the backfoot sterling work from Mark Hoare and Conor McDonald left Jason Tyndall on hand to put the Harps 3 - 2 in front. With only minutes remaining Malahide fought back and following blocked attempts on goal, the ball fell kindly to the Malahide forwards to slot home and thus deny Harps the victory.
All the squad performed admirably with outstanding displays from Mark Hoare, Niall Turley and man of the match Cian McTiernan.
Squad: Andrew Brownmore, Tim Ryan, Daire Gannon, Niall Turley, Cian McTiernan, Ian Marron, Peter Byrne, Jason Tyndall, Jack Tyrrell, Mark Meyler, Josh Finnegan, Aaron Kelly, Mark Hoare and Conor McDonald.

Ratoath Harps 4……Balbriggan 1
L.S.L. Major 1...... Played Sun. 28th Jan. in Balbriggan. K.O. 11o C.
Ratoath applied the early pressure and went close when a good cross from Damian O Neill found Jordan Lancaster whose shot skimmed the crossbar. Balbriggan took the lead against the run of play after fifteen minutes when they sprung The Harps offside trap and scored despite the best efforts of keeper Gary Duff. Continued pressure from Ratoath was rewarded with an equaliser after thirty minutes. An indirect free inside the box was tapped to Gareth Wilson whose low drive found the corner of the net. Ratoath should have taken the lead before the break when a cross from Gareth Wilson was hit wide by Jordan Lancaster.
Five minutes into the second half the outstanding Graham Kavanagh set up Damian O Neill and his daisy cutter gave Ratoath a 2-1 lead. A second yellow card saw Balbriggan reduced to ten men and shortly after this another great pass from Graham released Keith Byrne but his effort brought out the best in the opposing keeper who tipped it over for a corner. Gareth Wilson scored his second and Ratoath’s third after fifteen minutes when his own shot rebounded to him and he finished sweetly. Harps substitute David Geraghty completed the scoring with a well struck free kick from twenty metres as a demoralised Balbriggan had another player sent off. Graham Kavanagh, Robbie Kelly, Derek Kavanagh and Gareth Wilson were prominent in a stylish display which brings Ratoath further up the table.

HARPS RETAIN TOP POSITION
Fri. 26th Jan. K.O.7-45
Ratoath Harps 6…..Blanchardstown 2
Despite an inept first half display Ratoath Harps rallied at the break to put in a good second half performance to retain their position at the top of the L.S.L. Div. 2 (Sat.) league table. The Harps started brightly and made it 1-0 after ten minutes when a Damian Whelan shot was spilled by the Blanchardstown keeper and Alan Farrelly reacted quickest to fire the ball to the back of the net from an awkward angle. The lead did not last long as a well placed shot from the edge of the area gave Harps keeper Martin McKeon no chance. Ratoath regained the lead at the twenty minute mark when Ciaran Rothwell made room with some clever footwork and his excellent through ball released Jonathan Drake who finished with a low hard drive. The rest of the half contained little to enthuse about and the 2-1 score line remained to the break.
A change of attitude by the Ratoath players was immediately evident as the game resumed. Good play from substitute Andy Griffith started a move which saw a wicked shot from Matt Conway, also a sub, skim the bar. Blanchardstown fell further behind after ten minutes when a mazy run and firm shot from Matt was well saved but presented Damian Whelan with an easy finish to make it 3-1.
The visitors replied within two minutes, due in no small part to the kindness of The Harps defence, to make it 3-2. A bit of magic from Ciaran Rothwell after twenty minutes restored Ratoath’s two goal advantage. Ciaran collected the ball on the left wing and left the defence tackling fresh air before finishing from an impossible looking position close to the end line. Matt Conway continued to torment and was taken down for a penalty five minutes later which was converted by Damian Whelan to make it 5-2.
Defender John Moore found himself in unknown territory soon afterwards but his tricky footwork and well struck shot went narrowly wide. Matt Conway produced the final goal, which was just reward for his lively performance since his introduction. An astute pass from Ciaran Rothwell released Matt and his mazy run was embellished with an excellent finish to leave the final score at 6-2. John Moore, Jonathan Drake, Matt Conway and Ciaran Rothwell were best in a game that improved immensely in the second half.

HARPS WIN AGAIN
L.S.L. MAJOR 1 (SUN.)
RATOATH HARPS 3... PARKVALE 1
Gale force winds were the dominating factor for the second week running as Ratoath Harps continued their climb up the league table in this floodlit home fixture last Friday night.
Parkvale attacked from the start aided by the strong wind and should have taken the lead in the first minute, but the clear cut chance was blasted over. Ratoath were defending desperately in the early stages but gradually weathered the storm, with new signing Ciaran Donnelly showing some good touches and Keith Byrne troubling the Parkvale defence with some strong runs. A shot from Ciaran beat the keeper but hit the top of the bar and went wide while a good shot from Graham Kavanagh went narrowly over. A great run and cross from Keith Byrne on the half hour presented Jordan Lancaster with a great chance but his first touch knocked the ball wide.
Jordan atoned for his miss ten minutes later when he put Graham through and he was taken down for a penalty. The imposing figure of Damian O Neill strode forward from his defensive duties and he despatched the ball to the back of the net with confidence to give The Harps a 1-0 lead as half time approached.
With the wind behind them in the second half Ratoath pushed forward and a great shot from Gareth Wilson was well saved by the Parkvale keeper. Graham Kavanagh increased the lead after twenty minutes when a good shot from Keith Byrne was knocked into his path for an easy finish. A slick passing movement involving several Harps players ten minutes later produced the best goal of the game when Gareth Wilson's shot from distance was buried in the top corner of the net.
A needlessly conceded penalty by Ratoath was converted by Parkvale with five minutes remaining and the 3-1 score line remained to the final whistle. Despite a rocky start this win was built on a good defensive display and players adapting to adverse weather conditions well. On the downside was the tendency for some players to collect silly yellow cards which unfortunately could backfire as the season progresses.

Ratoath Harps Under 14 players selected for FAI International Development Squad!
Congratulations to Daragh Timoney and Conor Deveraux, members of the Ratoath Harps Under 14 Premier NDSL team, who have been selected to join the FAI International Under 15 Development Squad.
This is a singular honour for both players, and indeed for the Club, as these are the first representatives from The Harps to the national squads. Best of luck to both of them, and just rewards for their gritty and determined practice and performances of the past few seasons!
The excellent performances of the players at a recent FAI National Cup match against Monaghan Town, and of the the Under 14 team generally under the tutelage of experienced Manager Martin Gillett, caught the eye of International Manager Vincent Butler who had turned up to watch a member of the opposing team.
The Harps have been privileged to have had two coaches, Noel Farrelly and Jay Glynn, working with the National Development Squad system in the last few years. Their experience, in conjunction with the changes effected by our excellent Director of Coaching Dave Cullen, has contributed greatly to raising the standard of coaching delivered to the Club's players. There can be few Clubs in any of the Dublin-area leagues, big names included, who have the breadth of playing facilities and the depth of coaching talent which at this stage is available as a matter of course in Ratoath Harps.
In a recent radio interview, Shelbourne Manager Ollie Byrne was heard to be delighted to now have 17 Schoolboy teams in his club. Compare that with the 26 schoolboy teams in Ratoath, add in the three Under 5 to Under 7 soccer clinics catering to more than 120 players, consider the experienced and committed managers and coaches and our excellent facilities, and the days of talented Ratoath Harps players having to transfer to the "bigger" Dublin clubs to progress must be well and truly behind us. C'mon The Harps!

HARPS RETURN TO TOP OF TABLE
Ratoath Harps 3 Railway Union 2
Ratoath Harps had to work hard for victory in this L.S.L. Division 2 (Sat.)
encounter last Friday night in Ratoath. The Harps started brightly and
created two early chances which failed to test the Railway keeper. Despite
a very strong cross field wind, which favoured Ratoath in the first half,
the two teams played the game at a fast pace with attacking football to the
fore as both keepers were kept on their toes. The Harps went behind after
thirty minutes when the defence had difficulty clearing a high ball and it
fell kindly for Railway to take a 1-0 lead. It looked like this would be
the half time score but Ratoath equalised in the forty fifth minute when
Mark Woods rifled the ball to the back of the net after a good pass from
Ciaran Rothwell. The second half continued in the same competitive vein as
both teams tried to get the upper hand. The Harps took a 2-1 lead twenty
five minutes into the second half when central defender Colm Eglington
reacted sharply to a corner kick and finished with a wicked left foot shot.
Railway fought back and a series of mistakes by Harps players led to the
concession of a penalty which was duly scored to bring the teams level
again with fifteen minutes remaining. Ratoath continued to attack and
despite many chances, were having difficulty in getting the winning goal
until Jonathan Drake pounced with five minutes of normal time remaining. A
great through ball from Austin Byrne sprung the offside trap to release
Jonathan who rounded the keeper and dribbled the ball across the goal line
to give The Harps a 3-2 lead. There was still plenty of action before the
final whistle as the referee, surprisingly, played ten minutes injury time.
Ratoath were on the defence for most of this period but held out for a win
that puts them back on top of the league table with Mid-Sutton.
Austin Byrne, Dylan Kiely, John Moore and Ciaran Rothwell were prominent
for The Harps as were the goal scorers.
"FRIDAY NIGHTS UNDER LIGHTS", as Ratoath Harps home L.S.L.games have been
dubbed, are becoming more popular and crowds are increasing weekly.
Team; Martin McKeon, Dylan Kiely, Colm Eglington, John Moore, Shay Coyne,

RATOATH HARPS 3 BATH RANGERS 1
(L.S.L. MAJOR 1 SUNDAY)
Played Friday 5th Jan. K.O.7-45
Ratoath Harps started the New Year with a good win over Bath Rangers last Friday night in Ratoath. The 7-45 kick-off under lights drew a good crowd of supporters to the Skryne Road venue to witness a competitive game. Ratoath started well but went behind after ten minutes, against the run of play, when central defender Derek Kavanagh inadvertently handled the ball to concede a penalty. This setback brought out the best in Ratoath and they hit back within minutes when striker Keith Byrne scored a great goal. Graham Kavanagh put in one of his excellent crosses from the left wing and despite the ball coming at an awkward height Keith gave the Bath keeper no chance with a right footed finish. Graham was involved with The Harps second goal a few minutes later when he released Keith Byrne down the left wing and his cross was finished in acrobatic style by Jordan Lancaster. Rangers fought back and dominated the rest of the first half but The Harps defence held firm, with Danny Lonergan in particular getting in some vital tackles, to leave a 2-1 score line at the break. The second half continued as the first half finished with Bath on top in midfield and pushing forward. Ratoath gradually came back into the , prompted by good distribution from Gareth Wilson in midfield, and scored their third goal twenty minutes into the half. A spell of pressure forced Bath to concede a corner and Jordan Lancaster’s well delivered ball was controlled and finished expertly by man of the match Graham Kavanagh. The Harps continued to get the upper hand and Keith Byrne was unlucky not to record a hat trick when a strong header just cleared the bar and a delicate chip was well saved by the Rangers keeper. Bath threw everything into attack in the last ten minutes but Ratoath, aided by good performances from substitutes David Geraghty and Richie O Brien and a great save from keeper Gary Duff, held out for a deserved win.
Team; Gary Duff, Joey Burke, Damian O Neill, Derek Kavanagh, Danny Lonergan, Barry Maguire, Gareth Wilson, Marcus Cowzer, Graham Kavanagh, Keith Byrne, Jordan Lancaster. Subs; David Geraghty, Richie O Brien, Austin Byrne, Ciaran Rothwell, Robbie Kelly.

DISAPPOINTMENT FOR HARPS IN GOODSON CUP
Ratoath Harps U-14 Premier team were knocked out of the S.F.A.I. Cup in Ratoath when visitors Monaghan Town recorded a 2-1 win. Both teams started off well with Ratoath keeper Eric Lawless and his opposite number showing their worth in the early stages with good saves. Gradually Monaghan got the upper hand and took a deserved lead after twenty five minutes as The Harps were having difficulty breaking down a strong Town defence. A one goal deficit at the break would not have been too bad but unfortunately a second was conceded in the last minute of the first half. A well delivered corner kick was powerfully headed home by the Monaghan centre–back who had been one of the best players on view. There was a notable difference in Ratoath’s performance in the second half with Conor Devereaux continuing to be a strong influence in midfield and Bryan Davis and Paddy Kennedy excelling defensively. The Harps passing game was rewarded after fifteen minutes when, after an interchange of passes, Liam Tolan put Conor Deveraux through to finish in fine style. Ratoath continued to push forward as Darragh Timoney tormented the visitors defence with some great wing play but despite being the better team in the second half the elusive second goal failed to materialise. This was the first defeat of the season for Ratoath who will now concentrate on chasing the league title. An interested spectator was U-15 national manager Vincent Butler who must have been impressed with players from both teams.
TEAM: Eric Lawless, Cian O Brien, Paddy Kennedy, Bryan Davis, Paul Keoghan, Sam Gribben, Conor Devereaux, Eoin O Connor, Darragh Timoney, Farrell McManus.

DCU 4
Ratoath Harps 1
After extra time left the game unresolved at 0-0, it took a penalty shootout to separate these two sides in a wind-blown DCU sports grounds in Glasnevin today.
Harps had plenty of chances and dominated for long periods of the game against a DCU squad which was made to look ordinary at times. However, the weather spoiled the game and neither team was able to break the deadlock. In addition, Colm Curry was a big loss when he had to exit early with a nasty back injury.
DCU were clinical in the shootout finishing 4-1 to progress to the next round in an away fixture against Salthill of Galway. We wish them all the best for the rest of the competition.

Leinster Senior League Premier 2 (Saturday)
Ratoath Harps 5 Cherryfield Utd. 1
From the warm up session by one of The Harps top coaches Noel Farrelly, to the final goal by substitute Jonathon Drake this was an excellent performance which transported Ratoath to joint league leaders with Mid-Sutton. Liam O Shea gave The Harps an early lead with a headed goal from a well delivered free kick and could have doubled the advantage, but his penalty kick cleared the crossbar. Cherryfield responded with a goal to draw level but Mark Woods and Ciaran Rothwell scored a goal each for a 3-1 half time scoreline. The defence were tested more severely in the second half but were up to the challenge and a second goal from Mark Woods from the penalty spot and a Jonathon Drake special sealed a good nights work for all concerned.

Harps Under 15A in amazing comeback!
Ratoath Harps: 7 Santos15: 5
It was a case of "Mr Motivation" with Under 15A manager Mark Flood at this incredible match on Sunday November 12th. 4-0 down at the interval and facing meltdown, rumour has it that the half-time team talk focussed heavily on "pride in the jersey" and it is believed that several hairstyles may have been comprehensively "dried".
The second half got off to a disastrous start with league leaders Santos15 scoring yet again and Harps going 5-0 behind. It seemed at times that the aptly-named opposition might indeed have had 15 players on the pitch as Harps struggled for their usual rhythm.
However, after a few judicious changes by the management team, it became a case of "Cometh the Hour, Cometh the Man", and Stephen Clarke stepped up to the plate with two inspirational goals in quick succession. Mark Dermody slotted in a third followed by Stephen Clarke again who netted for his hat trick. Several minutes later Mark Dermody scored his second to bring the sides level at 5-5.
Harps continued an amazing surge with goals by Benjamin Hayes and Brian Hanby to demolish a shell-shocked Santos 7-5 at the final whistle. Definitely a case of pride winning the day, and well done to all.
Separately, we believe Mark may be considering a book deal in the aftermath of this experience - to incorporate the name "Houdini" somewhere in the title .....

Ratoath Harps: 3 Home Farm: 1
The visit of Home Farm brought a big crowd to see this U9B NDSL match. Home Farm took complete control of this game early on and took a deserved lead on 10 minutes. The Ratoath defence of Marc McCormack, Oran Carr and Patrick Costelloe were kept very busy and had to work very hard to hold the Farm attack in check. But the goal changed the pattern of the game and the Ratoath midfield took over complete control of the game.
Aidan Gill tackled and worked tirelessly to win a great supply of possession for Ratoath. Graeme Reynolds put Farm under serious pressure with his great dribbling skills. Marc Gibson McKenna sprayed passes around the pitch. Callum McCormack and Michael Margiotta, playing up front for Ratoath, tormented the Farm defence with great footwork and shooting. The post and the crossbar were extra defenders for Farm on more than one occasion.
But it was inspired substitute Jake Brennan that got Ratoath level 5 minutes into the second half with a well struck free kick. Minutes later Graeme Reynolds got the goal that his play richly deserved. Jake finished the scoring with another fabulous free kick. Home Farm were always dangerous on the break and Ratoath defenders Harry Gribben, Marc McCormack, Oran Carr and Patrick Costelloe were always alert and turned their defending into attack whenever the opportunity came. It was a great feature of this game that the defenders on both sides were willing to play passes and set up plays from the back.
Ratoath coaches Ken Gill and Noel Farrelly were upbeat at the end and encouraged the boys in their team talk, to continue to bring the skills and passing that they are learning in training on into their games. This team is also showing the great benefits flowing from the skills learnt by the players in Dave Cullen’s clinics.
Referee Gerry Hickson kept the game flowing throughout.
It is a measure of the advanced standard of under-age football in Ratoath Harps that our squads are now regularly prevailing against major footballing powers like Home Farm. Victories like this one do not happen by accident and great credit is due to the managers and coaches in the Club who provide the commitment, energy and enthusiasm to make it happen. Well done to Manager Stephen Harvey, Ken Gill, Noel Farrelly and everyone involved!

Ratoath Harps 1 WFTA 2
Harps crashed out of the Leinster Junior Cup at a packed floodlit Ratoath Park tonight despite having a two man advantage for most of the second half.
WFTA started well and placed the Ratoath men under pressure for the first ten minutes but Harps, having weathered the storm, replied in kind and dominated much of the first half. Indeed WFTA, a Premier AUL side, were made to look very ordinary for much of that period.
15 minutes from the break, however, WFTA scored very much against the run of play following an incident in which Harps goalkeeper Gary Duff was injured. Harps, to their credit, responded magnificently, and scored a super goal from a Jordan Lancaster special seconds from the half time whistle.
Early in the second half, WFTA lost two men to red cards and Ratoath piled on the pressure for the next 35 minutes. Marcus Cowzer came close to netting, and Danny Lonergan came even closer, to be denied by a tremendous save from the WFTA keeper. To the Finglas team's credit they continued to chase and harry for every ball and packed their defense. In the end, it was not to be Ratoath's night.
While understandably deflated, veteran Ratoath Harps fans may well reflect on the fact that the world has changed indeed when we are now disappointed to be beaten by a Premier AUL side in the 4th round of the Leinster Junior Cup! This Ratoath squad has transformed men's football in the club over this and last season and continues to be a source of pride and inspiration throughout the club as evidenced by tonight's large support.
Roll on next Friday week (November 24th) and the 4th Round of the FAI Junior Cup, at home again against DCU. Come along and support.

Under 9 D1
Ratoath Harps : 4 Cloughertown F.C : 0
A beautiful morning in the south of Meath was complemented by an emphatic victory for the Ratoath U9D1 team. Encouraged on by the ever present "Parent" fan base, the team produced a performance that captured their effort and enthusiasm. With a full U8 season under their belt, they have grown in stature and ability. It is going to be a very interesting season for these spirited lads.
Goals from Burke,Walshe,Lanigan and Doran put this tie beyond Cloughertown. O'Sullivan and McLoughlin worked tirelessly in the engine room, while Connolly, Checkley and Martin never gave the opposition an opportunity to settle and perhaps, upset the outcome. Gibson in goal steadied the ship as usual and marshalled his area, Shay Given. The result was just reward for their commitment to training and their hard work on the day.

Team: Andrew Gibson, Aaron Martin, Sean Doran, Sean Walshe, Derry O'Sullivan, Alex Lanigan, Darragh McLoughlin, Paul Connolly, Christopher Checkley, Sam Burke.
Manager Paul Lanigan.
