Ratoath Harps U15P do the Double

Man Utd and Ratoath Harps – Double Winners

To win one competition is a challenge. To compete for and win two competitions in the one season is a true mark of a team performing at their very best. Manchester United proved they are worthy champions winning the English Premiership and the European Champions League. Performing in the top flight of the U15 NDSL, Ratoath Harps also proved their winning  credentials by winning the U15 Premier league and U15 Cup competitions.

What is remarkable about the 15 players on this panel is the level of consistency over multiple seasons. In fact, the team is unbeaten in the league over the last two seasons. Given the top quality competition with well known clubs such as Swords Rovers, Glebe, Dunshaughlin and Kinsealy, to remain unbeaten is a fantastic achievement.

This season, the league went right to the wire with Swords Rovers and Glebe both challenging for the league championship. The season had a defining moment in the two fixtures with Swords Rovers played during the final weeks of play. A 1-1 result in Swords meant a nailbiting decider for the return match in Ratoath. After a pulsating fixture, Ratoath won 3-2, leaving just one match to play and one single point needed. This was obtained in a high scoring 5-3 win against Boyne.

The cup win was achieved against Balbriggan played at the fantastic NDSL grounds in Coolock. A 3-0 win on the day brought joy to all involved.

Everyone on the panel and management played a part in a fabulous season. Expertly guided by Martin Gillett and Noel
Farrelly, the young men flourished and grew in confidence as the season progressed.  A great keeper, Eric Lawless, had a fantastic  defence marshaled by players such as Eoin O Connor, Brian Davis, Cian O’Brien. Paddy Kennedy, Mark Wiley, Paul Keoghan,  Midfield maestros were Liam Tolan, Farrell mc Manus, Sam Gribben, Graham Jordan, and Feilim  Dowling. The potent strikers were Dara Timoney, Conor Heinz and  Alan o’ Brien

Congratulations to all involved. A great bunch of lads who are all great friends.

Is it possible? Could Ratoath Harps complete another season unbeaten in the league? Of course they can!   Manchester United watch out !

Ashbourne 11E V Ratoath Harps 11E

May 2nd 2008

Ratoath beat Ashbourne 3-1 in the local derby game this evening. Ratoath started well and were  1 goal up after 5 minutes with a great finish from Aaron Flanagan.  Ashbourne levelled 10 minutes later and just before half time Ratoath scored a second to bring the first half to an end. Ashbourne started the second half well but were kept at bay with by the excellent Harps defence of Alana Greaves, Sarah Doran, Darragh Daly and Conor Ward. Ratoath scored the 3rd with 5 minutes to go when Evan Phelan slipped the ball through to Aaron Flanagan who sent the keeper the wrong way with an excellent finish.

Rivervalley Rangers 2 – 3 Ratoath Harps U14A (HT 0 – 1)

Sunday 27th April 10 am

Sunday morning saw the 14A squad travel to Swords to play their last league game against Rivervalley. With three teams tying on top spot it was always going to be big game. Nerves were settled a bit after 60 seconds when Michael Neill found the bottom corner of the net. Rivervalley then piled on the pressure which continued till the final whistle. A stunning goal from Paddy Flood 15 minutes into the second half made life a little easier and the third again from Michael Neill saw off a fine challenge from the Valley. Elliot Gould, Captain, was man of the match with an outstanding performance. With other results in this guarantees 14A second place in this very tight league with one game remaining elsewhere, a chance of a play off for top spot still remains. Coming from 13C to the 14A league this team has battled through the season to be joint top which is down to each individual player on this team. With second place secured anything else is a bonus and the lads can feel they did Ratoath Harps and themselves proud. Well Done!

A special word for Emmett Woods, having been named Player of the Year for this team for his tireless efforts and his top class performance at every game this season. Well done Emmett!

The team was Mark Farrington (keeper) Emmett Woods, Rob Kavanagh, Dan Conlan, Elliot Gould (C), Rob Staunton, Shane Nolan, Paddy Flood, Michael Neill, Chris Kearns, Yaros Baturov, Colm Nugent, Hugh Moloney, Coaches: John Kearns & Billy Neill.

TOM WATT CUP WINNERS 2008

RHFC LADIES SENIOR 1 –  2 DUNSHAUGHLIN BELLES

Monday April 21st Codliss

On a summer type evening on Monday the ladies senior team launched their 2008 season with a challenge match against Dunshaughlin Belles, who have just completed their winter season, coming second in their league. A good crowd turned out to see the Ladies battle away against a “seasoned” Dunshaughlin and after 3 minutes it looked good as Linda Farrelly blasted the net to take the lead. Half time saw the sides level at one all and an early goal for Dunshaughlin finalised the result but not the game. The Ladies played entertaining football through the 90 minutes and Kay McKenna came close to levelling the game with a fine free kick which just whizzed past the top corner post. Katie Byrne played a great game and “Man” of the match was Sarah Keegan for her tireless efforts to keep Dunshaughlin at bay. The Ladies team will play again next Monday at home and some more friendlies in the warm up to their season which kicks off on May 19th in DWSL Inter 4 North league. The squad was Kay McKenna (c) Aisling Gavin. Aisling McIntyre. Ann Marie Copeland. Ann Marie Griffith. Geraldine Meade. Heather Keogh. Katie Byrne. Katie Callaghan. Leonne McGrath. Linda Farrelly. Noelle.  Sarah Keegan. Sinead.  Stina Bjockman.   Vida Burkhead. Coach John Kearns.

U 12 E  Ratoath Harps V Navan Road, 20th April 2008

by Conor Patten

Ratoath Harps under 12e recorded a 4-3 win over Navan Road United on Sunday in freezing conditions last Sunday. The Harps were awake from the off and took the lead on the fifth minute when Conor Patten carried the ball from the middle of the park only to see his shot saved on the line and palmed into the path of Matthew Mcleen who slotted home. Navan Road gained the upper hand after the goal but they couldn’t find a way past Tom Gannon in goal. Shortly after that Conor Patten played a smart one-two with Matthew Mcleen and then carried his run down the right wing and he squared the ball for John Bohen who found himself unmarked in the box and fired home giving the keeper no chance. Navan Road got a goal shortly after when their number two slotted past Tom Gannon. Ciaran Tierney volleyed home soon after to make it 3-1 to the Harps. Navan Road were stunned and struggled to have an impact on the game after the Harps third goal. A few minutes before the break Conor Patten raced down the right wing and hit a pin point cross onto the head of Matthew Mcleen who headed over the finger tips of the keeper. After the break Navan Road rallied and scored but their striker was clearly offside. Five minutes from time Tom Gannon came out to clear the ball but it bobbled in front of him which left an open goal for their striker to score into. It ended 4-3 with everyone contributing to the victory.

TOM WATT CUP SEMI FINAL

Played Saturday 15th March in Ratoath

 Ratoath Harps 2….Malahide Utd. 2….A.E.T.

Ratoath won 6-5 on Penalties

Ratoath Harps L.S.L. Div. 3A team had a great win over Malahide last Saturday in Ratoath to reach the final of the Tom Watt Cup. Goalkeeper Laurence Halpin was the hero for The Harps as he made three saves in the penalty shootout to add to his impressive performance during the match. Ratoath started well and took the lead after fifteen minutes when a well taken corner was headed home by Gary Hynes. Malahide responded with sustained pressure but the home defence held firm with Brian Colgan and Conor Dempsey getting in some important tackles. Despite both teams playing some great football there were no more goals before the break with Ratoath leading 1-0. Malahide levelled within five minutes of the resumption when a free kick was finished from close range. As the game continued Malahide’s more experienced players began to exert their influence but the youthful Harps team were up to the challenge and despite chances at both ends the scoreline was still 1-1 after ninety minutes. Substitute Ritchie Lombard then gave Ratoath a 2-1 lead midway through the first period of extra time when he pounced in a crowded goalmouth to force the ball over the line. Malahide made it 2-2 at the start of the second period of extra time when a great save from Halpin fell kindly for the visitors. Both teams tried hard to get the winning goal but time ran out and penalty kicks were needed to decide the outcome. After three penalties each The Harps were 3-1 down but Halpin saved the next two Malahide penalties to bring the issue to sudden death and sealed victory with a save on the eighteenth penalty.

Team; Lar Halpin, Ian Davis, Darragh McGill, Brian Colgan, Conor Dempsey, Brian Snowe, Andrew Salama, Kevin Walls, Shane Griffin, Gary Hynes, Jason Harte.

Subs; Ritchie Lombard, Jordan Finlay, Peter Higgins.

L.S.L. DIV. 2 (Sat.) Played Tues. 11th March in Ratoath K.O. 7-45

 Ratoath Harps 2….Griffith Rovers 0

On a night dominated by strong winds, rain and sleet Ratoath Harps weathered the storm, literally and figuratively, to overcome second placed Griffith Rovers and strengthen their position at the top of the table. While the first half did not produce any goals there were many chances created by both teams but Ratoath could be happier with the 0-0 halftime scoreline as they could look forward to wind advantage in the second half.  An astute pass from Ratoath midfielder Ciaran Rothwell fifteen minutes into the second half set up Jonathan Drake who produced a delightful finish to give The Harps a 1-0 lead. Ratoath were the dominant team in the second half but Griffith were always dangerous on the break and hit the post with a good shot on one of their raids. The victory was sealed with ten minutes remaining when great skill from Mark Woods saw him beat a defender and round the keeper before he was hauled down as he prepared to score. Damien O Neill scored the resultant penalty for a well deserved 2-0 victory. This win was a major boost in the quest for league honours and similar team performances should bring the league title closer. Andy Griffith and Brendan Kelly were to the fore for Ratoath with the rest of the team not to far behind them in a good performance in bad conditions.

Team; Andrew Harte, Terry Whelan, Colm Eglington, Damien O Neill, Andy Griffith, Alan Farrelly, Brendan Kelly, Conor Killian, Ciaran Rothwell, Jonathan Drake, Mark Woods.

VERE DEANE CUP QUARTER FINAL

RATOATH HARPS 3…..ST. JOSEPHS (SALLYNOGGIN) 1

Ratoath Harps had a good 3-1 away win over St. Josephs last Sunday morning in Dunlaoighre. The Harps started brightly with Jordan Lancaster raiding down the left wing and putting in some telling crosses to put the home team under pressure. Ratoath took the lead after fifteen minutes with a move started by the impressive Aaron Timmons. His pinpoint pass found David Geraghty on the right and his cross was volleyed home by Matt Conway. St. Josephs were causing problems for the Ratoath defence with a series of attacks and were unlucky not to level after twenty five minutes when a Harps defender cleared off the line. Ratoath were also troubling the Joey’s defence but weak finishing and a good last line of defence kept the scoreline at 1-0 at the break. Mark Shannon gave Ratoath a 2-0 lead five minutes into the second half when he finished well after shots from Jordan Lancaster and Matt Conway had been blocked. St. Josephs pulled one back fifteen minutes later after a handball in the area gave them a penalty and they continued to apply pressure on the Ratoath defence. Goal keeper Gary Duff pulled off a great save and defender Paul Byrne cleared the resulting corner off the line. Ratoath weathered the storm and returned to attacking mode with Jordan Lancaster bringing a good save from the Joeys keeper. Matt Conway then headed a good chance over before he set up Harps midfielder David Geraghty who gave the home keeper no chance from close range to complete the scoring with five minutes remaining. Joey Burke, David Geraghty and Aaron Timmons were best for Ratoath.

Team; Gary Duff, Brian Byrne, Ciaran Donnelly, Joey Burke, Paul Byrne, David Geraghty, Danny Lonergan, Mark Shannon, Jordan Lancaster, Aaron Timmons, Matt Conway. Subs; Damien O Neill, Jonathan Drake, Mark Woods.

LEINSTER JUNIOR SHIELD

Ratoath Harps L.S.L. Div. 3A team lost 3-1 away to Ballycumber Rovers (Offaly) last Sunday morning in the semi-final of the Leinster Junior Shield.  Rovers took an early 2-0 lead before a great Conor Dempsey goal made it 2-1. Ratoath conceded a third goal in the dying minutes of the game as the pushed forward for what would have been a deserved equaliser. This young team have done very well to reach this stage of a Leinster competition in their first year in adult football.

Match Report 14A Home to Rivervalley Sunday March 9th 2008

Ratoath Harps 1 - 0 Northway Rangers

The under 14A squad kept the heat on the league top position this morning with a hard fought win over a good defensive Rivervalley side. Mark Farrington donned the keeper’s gloves for the day and did a fine job when called on. Harps had 80% possession in this game though and the 4 4 3 system caused the opposition to work very hard. Some fine shots in the first half showed how good their keeper was and it wasn’t until the 64th minute that the 3 strikers joined in a one two three to stick the ball passed the keeper, Chris Kearns being the one to score. The team played well and man of the match Dan Conlan had an outstanding game at centre half. There are still four teams in contention for this close title race. The team was Mark Farrington (keeper) Emmett Woods Rob Kavanagh Dan Conlan Elliot Gould (C) Rob Staunton Paddy Flood Michael Neill Barry Carr Chris Kearns Colm Nugent Hugh Moloney Coaches John Kearns & Billy Neill.

POLIKOFF CUP (Played Tues. 19th Feb in Ratoath)

RATOATH HARPS 3…….BLACKROCK  COLLEGE 3 (A.E.T.)

 (Blackrock won 2-1 on penalties)

.

The Blackrock keeper was the hero of this exciting Polikoff Cup game with three consecutive saves in the penalty shootout to add to his impressive display during the previous one hundred and ten minutes. His first save came inside the first five minutes when he stopped a good shot from Harps striker Aaron Timmons. Blackrock took the lead five minutes later with a volley from the edge of the box which gave Harps keeper Gary Duff no chance. Ratoath’s response was immediate as Matt Conway hit an unstoppable right foot shot to level the scoring. The home team almost took the lead on the thirty minute mark with a free kick going narrowly wide but Blackrock were also creating chances. Gary Duff made another good save and central defender Joey Burke was called on to make a great goal line clearance. As half time approached Ratoath took a 2-1 lead when a good run and shot from midfielder Mark Shannon ended in the bottom corner of the net. Blackrock levelled again within five minutes of the second half with a twenty metre shot to the top left of the net for the best goal of the game and a 2-2 scoreline. Aaron Timmons then presented a half chance to Matt Conway who shot over but Barry Maguire gave The Harps a 3-2 lead twenty minutes into the second half. With the Blackrock defence pushing out he broke from half way and finished well despite the best efforts of the College keeper. The resilient Blackrock team fought back once again and a well delivered free from the right fell for a Blackrock striker who finished well to make it 3-3. Both teams continued to look for a winning goal but despite extra time and chances created no more goals were forthcoming and the penalty shootout decided the issue. Both teams put in good performances despite freezing weather conditions but Ratoath will be questioning their inability to close down opposing players in shooting positions.

.

Team; Gary Duff, Brian Byrne, Ciaran Donnelly, Joey Burke, Paul Byrne, Barry Maguire, Mark Shannon, Danny Lonergan, Keith Scally, Aaron Timmons, Matt Conway.

ROUNDUP

.

Another good performance from Ratoath Harps L.S.L. 3A team gave them a 3-0 away victory over Pioneers in The Watt Cup. Goals from Ian Davis and Shane Griffin gave Ratoath a 2-0 half time lead and Conor Dempsey added a third towards the end of the game when he scored direct from a corner.

.

The N.D.S.L. 15B team continued their good run with a 5-1 away win over Castleknock Celtic. Sean Kennedy opened the scoring for Ratoath but Celtic levelled before Faoilan Cahill made it 2-1 to The Harps. Ian Gillette added another goal to give Ratoath a 3-1 half time lead. Ian got a second goal midway through the second half before Cathal Donnelly capped a man of the match performance with a fifth goal for a comprehensive victory. Patrick Haslam once again played a captains role showing his leadership qualities and the Harps defensive unit has an excellent ninty minutes.

RATOATH HARPS 1…….SHAMROCK ROVERS 0

.

Played Friday 8th. Feb. in Ratoath.  K.O. 7-45

.

.

.

In an evenly contested game Ratoath Harps took the honours against fellow promotion contenders Shamrock Rovers last Friday night under lights in Ratoath. With the assistance of a strong wind, Rovers had the majority of possession in the first half but goal scoring chances were equally balanced. The Harps were kept busy defending some well taken corners but always looked dangerous on the break with strikers Matt Conway and Aaron Timmons looking lively. Mark Shannon went close for Ratoath with a strong header after a good cross from Matt Conway but Rovers responded with a long distance shot which came back off the crossbar. The home team finished the first half well and were unlucky not to take the lead when a Jordan Lancaster free kick shaved the outside of the post. Despite playing against the wind Rovers were on top in the early stages of the second half, but with Harps midfielders Danny Lonergan and Mark Shannon becoming more influential as the game progressed, the tide turned in Ratoath’s favour. Some good saves from the Rovers keeper and a great block from Harps full back Paul Byrne helped to keep the scoreline blank. The winning goal was scored midway through the second half when Matt Conway’s skill and persistence took him past three Rovers defenders and his pinpoint cross was volleyed home by Aaron Timmons. Rovers fought back but a resilient Harps defence kept them at bay to collect three valuable points in this very competitive league. Danny Lonergan, Matt Conway and Ciaran Donnelly were to the fore for Ratoath in a strong team performance.

Match Report Under 14A Home to Northway Rangers Sunday February 3rd 2008

.

Ratoath Harps 2 – 1 Northway Rangers

.

It's been two months since this team played a game and then it was Northway Rangers away. This was the home fixture at the Codliss and a six pointer against the second placed team in 14A. The weather was very similar to the last game against Northway in December and the competitive edge was much the same too. Harps started brightly and on 12 minutes a rebound from a kick out gave Chris Kearns the perfect opportunity to open the score with a placed shot past the Northway keeper.

.

The two teams battled on with more chances falling to Northway but half time saw the score remain at one nil. A mix up at the back gave the visitors the chance to equalise, which they did having looked dangerous up to that. The game turned with a direct free kick about 25 yards out and Shane Nolan picked the top left corner which left the keeper no chance. The remaining 15 minutes were a real battle, but the Harps held on to remain top of this competitive league and now five points clear. This result saw this squad unbeaten in their last twenty league games and unbeaten this season. The team was Yaros Baturov (keeper), Emmett Woods, Rob Kavanagh, Colm Nugent, Elliot Gould (C), Rob Staunton,Paddy Flood, Shane Nolan, Michael Neill, Barry Carr, Chris Kearns, Hugh Moloney, Dan Conlan, Mark Farrington (Man of the Match), Coaches John Kearns & Billy Neill.

Lar Halpin kept Ratoath in the game with a great save early in the second half and The Harps doubled their advantage with five minutes remaining for a deserved 2-0 win.

BRENFER U-8 CUP

.

RATOATH HARPS U-8e 3…..RUSH ATHLETIC 0

.

Ratoath Harps exciting 3-0 home win over Rush sent them through to the next round of the Brenfer Cup last Saturday. Ratoath had most of the possession in the early stages and went close to taking the lead on a couple of occasions but did not score until five minutes before half time. A good run and cross by Darragh McPhartland delivered the ball to John Walsh and he struck home at the back post for a 1-0 interval lead.  Ratoath continued to dominate in the second half and scored a second goal when top defender Patrick Conway set up Darragh who slotted home. Adam Dunne then made it 3-0 with a spectacular strike from the edge of the box in the dying moments of the game to the delight of the Harps supporters.

RATOATH HARPS (NDSL B1) 4…… CASTLEKNOCK Celtic (NDSL B) 1

.

Brenfer Cup 1st Round Replay. Played Saturday 15th Dec. in  Ratoath:

.

.

.

Team: Sinan Ortagcioux, Mark McCormack, Stephen Byrne, Ryan O Connor, Derry O’Sullivan, Eoghan Greene, Paul Connolly, Dylan McCabe, Sean Duncan, Darragh McLoughlin, Sean Doran.

.

.

.

The first game was a cracker, ending 2-2 at Porterstown Road, but this replay had all the drama & more. The Harps started very well with Mark McCormack & Stephen Byrne playing at the back, cutting out any Castleknock attacks with strong defensive play. On the occasions when the Knock got through, they met Sinan Ortagcioux in commanding form between the sticks for the Harps. The Harps midfield controlled the game with some super passing moves. Eoghan Greene anchored the mid field with Derry O’ Sullivan showing great energy providing a top class display of box-to-box midfield play. The stability & possession allowed Paul Connolly & Ryan O’Connor licence to play as out & out wingers providing width & whipping in crosses for Sean Duncan & Dylan McCabe right throughout the first half. Good goal keeping by the Castleknock team, along with a bit of bad luck & the width of the cross bar denied the Harps the opportunity to go in at half time in front. Having taken a few knocks, Sean Duncan was replaced just before the half by Sean Doran & Eoghan Greene was replaced by Darragh McLoughlin. The Harps team did not suffer by the switches & the injection of energy & skill from the players coming on maintained the constant pressure on the Castleknock goal. After a number of clearances off the Knock goal line, the Harps best chance fell to Sean Doran mid way through the second half but the ball hopped up just as he was about to strike & went inches wide of the post. Against the run of play with ten minutes to go, Castleknock took the lead when a break away led to the Castleknock forward toe poking the ball under the body of the Harps goalkeeper. However straight from the kick off the Harps continued to play with composure & quality possession & right on the whistle a fine cross from Ryan O’Connor was finished at the back post by Dylan McCabe putting this game into extra time. The Harps fitness & clever use of the ball paid deserved dividends in extra time. In the second half of extra time a fine pass from Mark McCormack from inside the Harps half of the pitch landed at the feet of McCabe who turned & finished with a daisy cutter going under the body of the Castleknock goal keeper. Almost straight away from the tip off, the Harps won the ball back & some good passing between McLoughlin, Connolly & O’Connor, set up McCabe with the chance to get his hat trick, which he took with a cool head. From then the Harps pushed on to kill off the game with Sean Duncan back on the pitch having shaken off his knock to intercept a goal kick from the Knock & send it back from well outside the box into the top left corner of the goal. This Harps team, all local lads & quite a few coming through the ranks of the academy, have shown in this display that the future is bright for the club & may they continue to play in the fashion they did today for many years to come……..but please, the last minute equalisers are tough on the hearts of the coaches looking on.

The boys have dedicated this performance as an early Xmas present to their coaches, Des McLoughlin & Michael Connolly for their time & efforts put into this team in 2007 & would like a special mention to Colm Kinsella & Barry Breen who have also giving up time to give their support & tips on a regular basis to the squad.

Ratoath Harps 6…..Quay Celtic 2

.

(Played 12th. Nov. under lights in Ratoath K.O. 8pm)

.

.

.

Ratoath took the lead inside five minutes when Matt Conway was taken down for a penalty which was scored by Damien O Neill. Jordan Lancaster then went close for The Harps before Matt Conway made it 2-0 after fifteen minutes. Chris Doran skipped down the wing before crossing to Conway who finished from ten metres. Matt Conway then turned provider five minutes later when setting up Lancaster for a smart finish to make it 3-0 to the home side. Celtic responded within five minutes when the Harps defence pushed out for offside and were punished when the referee failed to blow and the visitors pulled one back to make it 3-1. A speculative twenty five metre shot from Ratoath full back David Geraghty increased the lead to 4-1 but Quay scored another goal five minutes before the break. Ratoath failed to clear a corner and the ball was despatched to the bottom corner of the net for a 4-2 scoreline at the interval. Danny Lonergan made it 5-2 to the Harps fifteen minutes into the second half when he headed home a Doran cross and the final goal was scored ten minutes later by Jordan Lancaster. A quick short corner caught Celtic napping and Mark Shannon sent in a dangerous cross for Lancaster to head home for a 6-2 victory.  While this was a comprehensive victory it was a very disappointing performance from Ratoath against a team struggling to survive relegation. All sections of the team failed to live up to expectations and major improvements will be needed if promotion is to be achieved as there are some tough games coming up in the new year against U.C.D. and Shamrock Rovers.

Match Report Under 14A Away to Northway Rangers

.

 Sunday December 2nd 2007.

.

Last Sunday Nov 25th the 14A team beat Navan Road to take the top spot in the league away from Northway Rangers, so the visit to Finglas today was going to be a tight contest and that’s exactly what it was. A strong wind blowing across the pitch made play difficult, but it helped catch out the Harps Keeper Yaros Baturov from a diverted flick on eight minutes which was unstoppable. That however was Yaros’ last error and he was today’s man of the match. Four minutes later Chris Kearns controlled well and went past two defenders and gave the Northway keeper no chance with a fine touch. One all and that’s the way it remained with many chances in the second half to both sides but the Harps keeper decided nothing was going by him after the first goal. A fine game overall despite the wind, and the occasion was added to when the Daily Star photographed the teams at half time for a report in next Tuesdays paper. As the Star reporter said after the game “Well done, you stay top” The 14A team remain unbeaten this season. The team was Yaros Baturov, Emmett Woods, Rob Kavanagh, Colm Nugent, Elliot Gould (c), Rob Staunton, Paddy Flood, Shane Nolan, Michael Neill, Barry Carr, Chris Kearns, Hugh Moloney, Dan Conlan, Mark Farrington.  Coaches John Kearns & Billy Neill.

Ratoath Harps U11B Vs Phoenix FC U11

.

The game started well as Ratoath kept the possession in Phoenix s half. Ratoath had many chances on goal, but all coming short. Phoenix counter attacked and had a few chances on goal. Phoenix then scored from a counter attack, just before the half time whistle. Jamie Walsh came to the rescue and scored a fantastic goal in the top corner assisted by Conor Browne. Ratoath had a few chances after that but didn’t manage to score. About 10 minutes from the end of the full time whistle, Sean Keogh scored a fantastic goal by lobbing the keeper. Both teams played well but Ratoath managed to grab a 2-1 victory. It all starts here Ratoath’s manager Ian Caprani said.   Report by Jamie Walsh

Templeogue 1….. Ratoath Harps 1

.

(Played Sunday 25th Nov. in Templeogue K.O. 2oC.)

.

.

.

Ratoath Harps were very lucky to collect a point in this away fixture against Templeogue. The Harps played their best football in the early stages of the game with Barry Maguire and Keith Scally going close and Matt Conway a constant threat to the home defence. Templeogue scored against the run of play after thirty minutes when a bad defensive header presented an easy chance to the home team and they carried their 1-0 lead to half time. Ratoath got it hard to recover from this setback but levelled after seventy five minutes with a Matt Conway goal after a period of pressure on the Templeogue defence. The sending off of Barry Maguire immediately after the equaliser had a detrimental effect on Ratoath and gave Templeogue the impetus to go for victory. The Harps defended desperately and were very lucky not to concede at least three more goals but held out for an undeserved draw. Dave Geraghty, Mark Shannon and Gareth Wilson were the pick of the Ratoath players in a disappointing team performance.

.

Team; Gary Duff, Dave Geraghty, Damien O Neill, Gareth Wilson, Paul Byrne, Barry Maguire, Mark Shannon, Danny Lonergan, Chris Doran, Matt Conway, Keith Scally.  Subs; Joey Burke for Byrne, Jordan Lancaster for Scally, Ciaran Donnelly for O Neill.

Ratoath Harps 5…. Fordrew Rovers 3

.

(Played Sat. 24th Nov. in Ratoath  K.O. 2oC.)

.

Ratoath took a 3-0 lead inside the first thirty minutes, took their foot of the pedal to allow Fordrew level, and then finished strongly for a deserved 5-3 win. Jordan Finlay opened the scoring for Ratoath after ten minutes. A Peter Higgins header was collected by Gary Hynes who supplied Jordan Finlay for a great finish. Finlay then turned provider when a clever pass from Brian Snowe was crossed to Darragh McGill to make it 2-0 with a good shot.  Finlay scored his second on the thirty minute mark after a good cross from the overlapping full back Kevin Timoney to make it 3-0 but Fordrew responded immediately to pull one back to make it 3-1. The Harps keeper Eoin McEvoy then made some vital saves before Ratoath  conceded another before the break when a Fordrew corner was powerfully headed home for a 3-2 scoreline at half time. Ten minutes into the second half Fordrew levelled when a cross from the left was headed home. Ratoath then played their way back into the game, prompted by some inspired play from midfielder Andrew Salama, and created some good chances. Brian Snowe then gave Ratoath a 4-3 lead after eighty minutes with a great individual goal and Kevin Timoney finished the scoring with a cool finish for a 5-3 win to advance to the next round of the shield.

Ratoath Harps 3….Blacklion 2

.

(Played 23rd Nov. in Ratoath K.O. 7-45)

.

Ratoath Harps and Blacklion had yet to suffer league defeat before this game so a tight game was anticipated as neither team wanted to end their good run, but both teams were going for a win and produced a feast of attacking football. Ratoath started well and created a couple of chances early in the game but Blacklion fought back and also went close to scoring. The Harps captain Brendan Kelly opened the scoring after twenty five minutes when a well delivered free from Dylan Kiely was headed home with accuracy. Blacklion responded with an equaliser ten minutes later when their six foot seven inch centre forward glanced a header home. Ratoath responded well to this setback and a flurry of attacks resulted with another goal on the forty minute mark. Dylan Kiely raided from the right wing and his cross from the end line found Brendan Kelly whose cross shot arrived awkwardly to Jonathon Drake. Drake’s first touch was excellent as he controlled the ball, turned and finished with a fierce right foot shot to give Ratoath a 2-1 half time lead. Blacklion had a period of domination early in the second half and hit the crossbar with a fierce shot after fifty five minutes. The Harps got their third goal ten minutes later when the Blacklion keeper had difficulty dealing with a back pass. Jonathan Drake applied pressure and the keeper fluffed his clearance but Drake slipped in his effort to reach the ball and scored from a horizontal position to make it 3-1. Ratoath had what looked like a legitimate goal by Alan Farrelly disallowed for offside and also came close with chances from Ger Sweeney and Jonathan Drake. Central defender Hugh Kelly was dismissed after eighty minutes for a second yellow card and Ratoath were on the defensive for the last ten minutes. Blacklion pulled a goal back with a few minutes remaining but Ratoath held out for a deserved victory. The Harps defence put in a great performance with Colm Eglington to the fore and once again Brendan Kelly pulled the strings in midfield. Jonathan Drake and Alan Farrelly caused many problems for the Blacklion defence with Drake in particular coming back to his best form.

Ratoath Harps 5…..Maynooth Town 0 (Played Fri. 16th Nov. in Ratoath K.O. 7-45pm)

.

Ratoath Harps domination of this game was reflected in the scoreline and once they opened the scoring in the second half there was only going to be one outcome. The Harps started the game with some flowing football and went close to scoring on several occasions but bad luck and good saves by the Maynooth keeper meant the break arrived without any goals scored. Ratoath took the lead three minutes into the second half when a Terry Whelan free kick was powerfully headed home by Harps captain Brendan Kelly. Ten minutes later a great through ball by Jonathan Drake put Alan Farrelly through and he finished in style to make it 2-0 to the home team. Mark Woods made it 3-0 five minutes later when he picked up a bad clearance and hit a great shot from thirty metres which gave the keeper no chance. Substitute Ger Sweeney then made it 4-0 with a great individual  goal ten minutes later and Mark Woods finished the scoring with his second goal after a move started by the outstanding Andy Griffith. This was probably one of the best team performances from a Ratoath team this season and was a very enjoyable game to watch. Andy Griffith gave a full back performance reminiscent of Denis Irwin at his best and Brendan Kelly was a powerful force in midfield. Mark Woods gave another great display in his new role, attacking from deep and linking up well with his strikers and Colm Eglington was a power house in defence.  Another performance of this quality will be needed next Friday night, 23rd Nov, when Ratoath host the unbeaten Blacklion Celtic in Div. 2 of the L.S.L.

.

Team; Andrew Harte, Terry Whelan, Colm Eglington, Hugh Kelly, Andy Griffith, Dylan Kiely, Brendan Kelly, Conor Killian, Mark Woods, Alan Farrelly, Jonathan Drake. Subs; John Moore for Colm Eglington, Ger Sweeney for Alan Farrelly, Stephen Hanna for Conor Killian.

Match Report Under 14A      Sunday November 11th 2007

.

The under 14A team travelled to Kilbarrack on Sunday and kept the pressure on the league leaders with a good win. Meeting one of the “big guns” of this league, the team was ready for the challenge and prepared to maintain their unbeaten run this year. A hard fought battle with a not too gentle opposition saw the Harps one nil down at half time having had most of the attacking possession. Five minutes into the second half, a direct free kick saw Michael Neill drive an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net bringing Ratoath back level. The Harps then pounded the Kilbarrack half and it paid off when a kick out went straight to Chris Kearns, who calmly lobbed the keeper with a fine strike to take the lead on 57 minutes. A final flurry saw another strike from Chris Kearns rebound into the path of Paddy Flood, who made no mistake in driving it low past the keeper. The 3 – 1 win saw the Harps stay second in the table one point behind the leaders. The team was Yaros Baturov, Emmett Woods, Rob Kavanagh, Colm Nugent, Elliot Gould (C), Rob Staunton, Paddy Flood, Shane Nolan, Michael Neill, Barry Carr, Chris Kearns, Hugh Moloney, Dan Conlan, Mark Farrington.

Usher Celtic 4….Ratoath Harps 0

.

(Played 11th Nov. at Memorial Park, Islandbridge. K.O. 11am)

.

Ratoath Harps suffered their heaviest defeat in some time as they exited the Leinster Junior Cup last Sunday. The Harps started brightly and had the bulk of possession in the first half but still were 2-0 down at the break. Celtics first came against the run of play with a breakaway goal after twenty five minutes, which was well finished. Ratoath’s best player, Damien O Neill, then went close on a couple of occasions before Usher got a second when a miskick by central defender Danny Lonergan gifted them a goal. Two more goals were conceded by Ratoath inside fifteen minutes of the restart as Usher began to control the game. The introduction of Matt Conway, Brian Snowe and Keith Scally brought fresh impetus to the Harps attack but the Usher defence held firm and they ran out deserving winners.

Ratoath Harps 3……Clonee Utd. 0

.

(Played Sat. 10th Nov. at Damastown, K.O. 2pm)

.

Ratoath Harps collected three away points last Saturday with a good display against near neighbours Clonee Utd. The first half was evenly contested with both sides creating some good chances. The Harps opened up the Clonee defence on a few occasions and could have taken the lead but for some weak finishing. The home team also had their chances but some great saves by Harps keeper Eoin McEvoy ensured there were no goals conceded before the break. With the strong wind in their favour Ratoath took a 1-0 lead ten minutes into the second half when a well struck corner from Brian Snowe was finished sweetly by midfielder Kevin Walls. A second goal was added two minutes later when an excellent cross from the left wing by Gary Hynes was smartly tucked away by Jordan Finlay. It took another two minutes before Ratoath scored again when great interplay from Gary Hynes and Jordan Finlay resulted in a good Hynes finish to make it 3-0. Despite this being the final goal there was still plenty of action before the game ended. Harps keeper McEvoy was called upon once again and brought off another outstanding save but Ratoath were playing some lovely football and were unlucky not to win by more against a strong Clonee team.

Team; Eoin McEvoy, Ian Davis, Peter Higgins, Brian Colgan, Kevin Timoney, Brian Snowe, Kevin Walls, Andrew Salama, Darragh McGill, Jordan Finlay, Gary Hynes.

Ratoath Harps 1…..St. Josephs Boys 1

.

Played Fri. 2nd Nov. in Ratoath. K.O. 7-45

.

Three weeks without a game was evident as Ratoath struggled to contain St. Josephs in the early stages of the game. Despite been on the back foot Ratoath should have taken the lead inside five minutes when Keith Scally went for power instead of placement and screwed his shot wide. Good defence from The Harps, especially Danny Lonergan and Ciaran Donnelly, restricted St. Joseph’s chances but they went close to taking the lead on a couple of occasions. Ratoath improved as the game progressed and almost took the lead five minutes before the break. A Barry Maguire header from a Chris Doran cross was well saved by the visiting keeper to leave the scoreline blank at half time. “Joeys” took the lead ten minutes into the second half with a powerfully headed goal and with things not going well up front for Ratoath it was going to need a bit of inspiration to gain something from the match.  The introduction of Damien O Neill and Brian Byrne brought a new urgency to the home teams play and they levelled with seven minutes remaining. Good work on the right by Damien O Neill and Mark Shannon created a chance for Danny Lonergan and he capped an outstanding performance with a great goal, his volleyed shot leaving the keeper flatfooted. Ratoath almost snatched a winner in the last minute when a Lonergan header cleared the bar but the 1-1 draw was probably a fair result. Danny Lonergan and Ciaran Donnelly were impressive at the centre of defence as Gareth Wilson and Mark Shannon took more control in midfield as the game progressed.

Ratoath Harps 1…..Griffith Rovers 1

.

Played Sat. 3rd Nov. in Johnston Park, Finglas. K.O. 2-30

.

Griffith Rovers had a one hundred percent record before this game but had to be content with a share of the spoils as Ratoath shrugged of a sluggish first half to dominate the second half. The Harps started well with Terry Whelan going close with a headed effort. Griffith began to take control but were thwarted by an outstanding Ratoath defence and half time arrived without the ball crossing the goal line.  The game was evenly balanced in the second half until Griffith took a 1-0 lead and Ratoath upped their game to dominate possession for the remainder of the game. The Harps were creating chances and went close on a number of occasions but bad luck and good goalkeeping kept them out. Time seemed to be running out but Alan Farrelly equalised for Ratoath with five minutes remaining when his well struck shot gave the keeper no chance, to finalise the scoring at 1-1.  Central defenders Colm Eglington and Hugh Kelly were best for Ratoath with Dylan Kiely, Andy Griffith and Brendan Kelly also playing well.

.

Ratoath Harps 3…..Carriglea Boys 1

.

Carriglea took the lead after ten minutes but Ratoath responded well and ran out deserving 3-1 winners. Andrew Gerrard levelled for The Harps with a great goal, after good play between Alex Dunphy and Ronan Cahill, to leave it 1-1 at the break. Ratoath got on top in the second half and the fit again Ronan Glynn (back after a broken collar bone) got in a good shot which was parried by the Carriglea keeper and Andrew Gerrard pounced to score his second. Ronan Glynn scored a third goal with another fine shot and Ratoath were unlucky not to add to their tally. Ronan Cahill and Robbie Marks were impressive for The Harps as were the goal scorers.

HARPS ON TOP IN LEINSTER SENIOR LEAGUE

.

Gary Hynes scored two goals as Ratoath Harps had a good 3-0 away win over Dunlaoighre in Div. 3A of the L.S.L. last Saturday. Ratoath failed to take advantage of a strong wind in the first half and reached the break with a 0-0 scoreline. Gary Hynes opened the scoring inside five minutes of the resumption and Brian Snowe made it 2-0 for The Harps fifteen minutes later as Ratoath played their best football against the wind. Hynes capped a great performance to finalise the scoring with ten minutes remaining for an impressive 3-0 victory. Peter Higgins had a great game for Ratoath and goalkeeper Eoin McEvoy was outstanding in the second half, pulling off some great saves.

Ratoath Harps came back from a 1-0 deficit to collect all three points in a Leinster Senior League Div. 2 game away to Walkinstown last Saturday.  Jonathan Drake scored twice, and was unlucky not to score more, as Brendan Kelly also registered on the scoreboard for a good 3-1 win to remain top of the league table.

Harps duo Alan Murphy and Padraig McMahon came to the conclusion that with the end of the league they didn't have enough stress in their lives. To fill the void (and nothing at all to do with avoiding the grass cutting, painting and in-laws visiting) that accumulates during the football season they decided to organise Ratoath Harps first ever under 9's Invitational Tournament. Teams from local clubs Ashbourne, Dunsaughlin and Cloghertown were invited to play against Ratoath's finest.

.

L.S.L. Div 2 (Saturday)

.

Ratoath Harps collected another three points in this 2-0 home win over Walkinstown United last Saturday afternoon to remain top of the league table. Ratoath started brightly and some crisp passing and good individual play from Matt Conway set up Mark Woods inside the first five minutes, but his well struck shot was saved by the Walkinstown keeper. The Harps continued to dominate play with captain Brendan Kelly and Terry Whelan getting the upper hand in midfield and the defence was solid, with Andy Griffith and Colm Eglington to the fore. Striker Conway continued to terrorise the visitors defence and The Harps were rewarded with a goal after twenty five minutes. Mark Woods shot home after a great shot from Conway rebounded from the post to secure a 1-0 half time lead. Ratoath continued to play well and Mark Woods got his second goal midway through the second half to double the advantage. Matt Conway was once again the provider when he ghosted past three defenders and his cross from the end line was finished by Woods. The home team continued to create chances and went close to increasing their advantage on a number of occasions but had to be content with a 2-0 victory. Andy Griffith and Matt Conway were outstanding for The Harps in an enjoyable game.

Ratoath Harps 2...W.F.T.A. 3

.

Despite the heroics of Ratoath keeper Gary Duff, the Harps were defeated by the strong and talented Finglas side W.F.T.A. in the F.A.I. Junior Cup last Friday night under lights in Ratoath. The game started at a blistering pace and Harps keeper Duff made the first of his many outstanding saves after five minutes when he bravely dived at the foot of an incoming striker and collected an injury in the process. Ratoath responded well and took a 1-0 lead after ten minutes from an indirect free kick. David Geraghty tapped the ball to Jordan Lancaster and his left foot rocket gave the visiting keeper no chance. Duff rescued Ratoath on another couple of occasions before W.F.T.A. levelled after twenty minutes. The Harps lost possession in defence and allowed the opposition a clear run at goal for a soft equaliser. W.F.T.A. were in total control now and almost took the lead when they hit the post after thirty minutes. Ratoath seemed to have weathered the storm as half time approached but fell behind, after sustained pressure, two minutes before the break for a 1-2 scoreline.

.

W.F.T.A. continued their dominance in the second half but the switch of Gareth Wilson from defence to midfield brought a marked improvement to Ratoath’s play which produced some good scoring chances. A Jordan Lancaster free kick skimmed the top of the crossbar and a long range shot from Mark Shannon scraped a post before central defender Brendan Kelly levelled from a well delivered free kick after eighty minutes. Ratoath continued to attack and a goal bound header from Danny Lonergan was deflected for a corner but the Finglas team always looked dangerous on the break. The winning goal came five minutes before the final whistle when several quick and accurate passes opened up the Harps defence for a goal which deserved to win any match. The last minutes of the game saw W.F.T.A. defend resolutely to hold out for victory and it will take a good team to halt their progress in the Cup. Despite a poor first half Ratoath can be reasonable happy with their overall performance and the large crowd enjoyed a competitive game with good football from both teams.

Despite conceding two goals from set pieces Ratoath had a comfortable 5-2 win over Manortown in the Vere Deane Cup. Keith Scally opened the scoring for the Harps twenty minutes into the game after being put through by Jordan Lancaster. Scally then turned provider for David Geraghty to make it 2-0 five minutes later. Manortown pulled one back five minutes before the break when the defence failed to deal with a free kick and the ball was scrambled home for a 2-1 scoreline at half time. David Geraghty then scored a great goal after sixty minutes when an excellent cross field pass from Paul Byrne was powerfully volleyed past the home keeper. Manortown then made it 3-2 when another free delivered into the box found an unmarked striker for an easy finish.  Midfielder Mark Shannon then made it 4-2 for The Harps when his thirty metre free kick deceived the Manortown keeper. Ratoath were reduced to ten men when defender Damien O Neill received a second yellow but still managed to score another goal when substitute Brian Snowe was taken down for a penalty which David Geraghty converted for his hat trick and a deserved 5-2 victory. David Geraghty and Mark Shannon impressed in midfield for Ratoath with Jordan Lancaster, Keith Scally and sub Brian Snowe showing some good touches.

RATOATH HARPS 5…………..ST. BRENDANS ARTANE 4

.

Ratoath Harps travelled to McAuley Park in Artane for this Leinster Junior Cup game and conceded an early goal from a corner following a great save from Harps keeper Gary Duff. Ratoath recover from this setback and created some good chances which brought out the best in the Brendan’s keeper. Good interplay between David Geraghty and Gareth Wilson set up centre forward Damien O Neill who finished with a low hard shot to the net on the thirty minute mark to level at 1-1. The Harps continued to attack and scored a second ten minutes later to make it 2-1. David Geraghty was fouled as he was about to score and Damien O Neill converted with confidence to give Ratoath a deserved half time lead. Fifteen minutes into the second half some shoddy defending allowed St. Brendan’s to level at 2-2 but Ratoath responded immediately when a clever free kick by Jordan Lancaster was well finished by substitute Barry Maguire. Jordan Lancaster then scored the best goal of the match with a stunning left foot shot to make it 4-2. Some more slack defending allowed the opposition to score their third goal but another Harps sub, Marcus Cowzer, made it   5-3 in the eighty fifth minute. The generous Harps were still not finished and allowed Brendan’s to score a fourth goal in the dying minutes to finish this nine goal game which could not be described as a thriller. Paul Byrne and David Geraghty were best for Ratoath in a game that saw the best football played in the first half.

Ratoath Harps 1 Park Celtic 0

.

In a real backs to the wall team effort, Harps eventually came out on top
with a dramatic late winner.

.

The first half saw a slow starting Harps ride their luck on more than
one occassion, with Harps Eoin O'Connell being by far the busier of the
two keepers. Gritty defensive displays by Devin Quinn & Sean O'Neill, were
called for as a strong Park Celtic side dominated. Harps only real effort
of note was rasping shot from Connor O'Sullivan which flew just wide
after 15 minutes.

.

The second half saw a determined Harps side come more into the
game. Harps were now attacking more, as Niall Murphy ,Darragh Philips and
Peter Kilgannon, making his debut after coming in from the academy, began
to push forward.

.

Substitutes Philip Marren, Eoin Clayton and Connor Nugent
all played their parts in a more even encounter. With time running out
and just as a stalemate seemed likely, Stephen Smith played a through
ball to Niall Murphy. After a quick layoff, James Crumlish found himself
one on one with the Celtic keeper. James finished cooly with an
unstoppable shot to the bottom right corner to give Harps the lead.

.

There was still time for one more scare ,but keeper,Eoin O'Connell
tipped a shot onto the bar,to keep a clean sheet and give Harps a hard
fought first win of the new season.
